About the Item
This captivating modern expressionist painting by Sharron Evans features oil paint and gold leaf on birch panel, framed in custom gold leaf. Painted in rich earth tones, the artwork juxtaposes vibrant deep reds and blacks to create a dreamlike, mottled background, evoking mist or wind. At the center, a flaxen horse emerges, surrounded by a radiant gold leaf nautilus spiral that begins at its neck and curls around its feet, forming a golden halo. This intricate technique, inspired by ancient Russian, Greek, and Italian religious iconography, imbues the horse with an angelic presence, symbolizing grace, order, and renewal amidst chaos.
The nautilus spiral, an ancient symbol of growth and natural harmony, represents life’s cycles and the interconnectedness of all things. As with many of Evans' works, this painting weaves together themes of magic, mythology, and symbolism, reflecting her deep love for horses and the natural world. Subtly inscribed with the phrase "Walking in Grace and Beauty", the swirling background evokes a universal truth that transcends the physical realm, inviting viewers to reflect on deeper spiritual themes.
Sharron Evans, living in rural Utah on a pioneer-era homestead surrounded by wildlife and ancient Native American trails, draws inspiration from her natural environment. Her art reflects the simplicity, honesty, and spirituality of the wilderness. Evans never works from photographs, preferring to create from dreams and memories, imbuing her paintings with personal emotion and a profound connection to nature.
This stunning piece is more than just a portrayal of a horse—it's a spiritual journey that invites viewers to connect with the beauty and mystery of the natural world, offering a timeless and meaningful addition to any collection.
