Chris Plunkett’s "Purple Sundown" is a 24 x 36 x 2 inch oil painting on cradled wood panel and is part of his “Urban Landscape” series. In this piece, Plunkett captures the very last summer light from a city rooftop, and its stunning light and color peering down on the busy world below. The combination creates an environment that allows the viewer to imagine their own narrative within the expansive detail hidden within the high contrast of city lights, and human activity. Its surface of thick textured paint strokes is protected with a gloss varnish which both illuminates and protects the vivid hues from yellowing or fading over time. The painting is frameless and ready to hang with a wired back. The sides of this piece have been painted flat black in order to enhance its contemporary aesthetic.
