About the Item

This abstracted still life painting features a cool palette. It captures a large red flower in a small glass vase. The glass vase blends into the back and foreground, creating an abstracted element to the composition. The painting itself is 10" x 8" and measures 13.5" x 10.5" x 1.25" framed. It is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas, and is framed in a floating frame with a gold face and interior black liner. it is ready to hang. Christine Averill-Green is a resident of the Capital District of New York and has been exhibiting her artwork in galleries and museums upstate for over 40 years. Christine received her B.A. in Art with a double minor in Music/Theatre from Russell Sage College and then went on to receive her M.S. in Art Education from the College of Saint Rose. "My work ranges from the representational to the abstract, and often combines the two styles. I love to paint in a textured and layered manner; striving to make the images fanciful but bold. Some of my paintings take almost a year to complete, as I am constantly building thin layer upon thin layer of paint until I achieve the desired effect. This technique reflects my fascination with the textures and layers, colors and mysteries of our own lives. Most of my work is influenced by medieval frescoes (the color combinations and use of gold) and the simplicity of Asian art. Above all, in every single painting I do, I abide by the words of Claude Monet: 'When you go out to paint, try to forget what objects you have before you....merely think here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow and paint it just as it looks to you.'" By John C. Traynor
    Located in Westport, CT
This impressionistic still life painting by Jon Traynor captures a wooden table top surface with an assortment of root vegetables and a porcelain vase filled with a bouquet of flowers. The painting overall features a warm, earthy palette which gives the sense of a warm glow being cast over the scene. The painting itself is 20" x 24" and 28" x 32" framed. It is professionally framed in an antiqued gold-hued frame. It is signed by the artist in the lower right-hand corner, and is wired and ready to hang. John C. Traynor's painting style is reminiscent of some 19th century painters and the Dutch Masters. He uses his knowledge of light and color to create a certain mood in each of his works. The creation of atmosphere is an important element in Traynor's paintings. Painting outdoors, on location, is a prime source of inspiration and ideas for his landscapes. John travels extensively, painting the landscapes around him. John was born in 1961 and spent his early years in Chester and Mendham, New Jersey. His art studies began at Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, and from there he furthered his education at Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut. He studied figure painting at the Art Students League of New York, as a merit scholar, with Frank Mason. Traynor continued his studies in Vermont with Mr. Mason on landscape painting, drawing with Carroll N. Jones Jr. of Stowe, Vermont and sculpture with Brother Jerome Cox...

  • "Restless Sea, " Contemporary Abstract Painting
    By Teodora Guererra
    Located in Westport, CT
This contemporary abstract statement painting by Teodora Guererra is made with acrylic and oil paint on canvas. It features a coastal palette, with layers of paint applied in wide, sweeping gestures, layering varying shades of blue over one another. The painting is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas, and is wired and ready to hang. Teodora Guererra’s abstract artistic vision has evolved throughout her years spent painting and teaching in Fairfield County, Connecticut; Tucson, Arizona, and upstate New York. Arizona’s naturally radiant landscape and arid climate led her to experiment with rich under-painting and vivid color; while the shifting seasons of the East Coast inspired Guererra to pursue dripping and staining techniques. Her focus has always been pushing the limits through experimentation with new materials. “As an artist, painting can be tormenting and sublime at the same time," the artist says of her work. "I'm a big risk taker, experimenting with different materials to layer, stain and saturate color on large canvases. My most successful work looks as if it happened all at once. It sometimes takes 7 or more paintings to produce a successful one and then it's a beautiful thing." Guererra received her undergraduate and graduate Art degrees from Southern Connecticut University, The College of Saint Rose and Skidmore College. Guererra’s paintings can be found in public and private collections across the U.S., including the Allmen Health and Wellness Center for Women in New York and SUNY Brockport, NY, William & Sonoma, San Francisco, CA. Her influences are Pat Steir, John McCracken, Helen Frankenthaler, Donald Jud, Bernar Venet, Agnes Martin and Brian Rutenberg...
