Stilson’s father, William Bostwick Stilson, was born in New Milford, Connecticut on September 30, 1842, and worked as a civil engineer. His mother, Ida Cynthia Alford, was born in Oswego, New York on June 25, 1851. The two were married August 4, 1869. The couple resided in New Milford, where a son, Jay Alvord, was born April 24, 1870, a daughter Mabel Louise was born March 11, 1872, and William Walworth was born July 29, 1874. Arie Azene, Israeli painter, born in Germany, 1934 Arie (Eisman) Azene was born in Hamburg, Germany. He immigrated to the Land of Israel with his parents soon after birth. In 1958, after studying art in Paris, he settled on Kibbutz Tzova in the Judean Hills, where he lived for 28 years. He spent 1968-1970 in France, England and Germany. In 1984, he moved to Jerusalem. Stylistically, Azene was influenced by the New Horizons group to which he was exposed during his studies at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv. Other influences were Joseph Zaritsky, Avigdor Stematsky and Yehezkel Streichman. Azene works in oil paint, pencil and aquarelle. His early work was abstract, but over the years, it has become more figurative and realistic. His colour palette is often based on two complementary hues, with a predominance of various combinations of gray.
