About the Item

Roman Charity is a beautiful original oil painting on canvas, realized after a painting by Dirck van Baburen (1595-1624). This painting depicts the young Pero nursing the old father Cimone, two figures shining in the darkness of the background. The original painting Roman Charity (127 x 150 cm) made by Dirck van Baburen, between 1622 and 1624, is today preserved in the York City Art Gallery. The aforementioned Dutch artist created this artwork after his Roman stay when he returned to Utrecht at the end of 1620. Profound assimilation of the Caravaggio's lesson is evident, also filtered by that of Bartolomeo Manfredi. There are also two Roman charities: an artwork realized by Jan Janssens, now preserved at the Museum of the Royal Academy of San Fernando in Madrid and another by an unknown author at the Douai at the Musée de la Chartreuse. This incredible specimen is an important proof of van Baburen's vast reputation acquired immediately after his death, as well as being a superb work to be surrounded by. Expertise by Dr. Patrizio Basso Bondini dated November, 2019.

Bucolic Scene - Oil on Canvas Attributed to Michelangelo Ricciolini - 1705
By Michelangelo Ricciolini
Located in Roma, IT
Bucolic Scene is a majestic oil painting on canvas attributed to the painter Michelangelo Ricciolini. Includes a frame: 142 x 173 cm. Good conditions, except for little loss of color on the canvas. The beautiful painting represents a bucolic scene where shepherds, women, and children are conversing in a resting moment. The scene is set in an open space, probably a wood. Michelangelo Ricciolini (1654 – 1715) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He first studied in Rome under Angelo Canini; he then joined the large studio of Carlo Maratta. He painted various works in Rome, including the dome of Santa Rita...

Hercules and Omphale, Old Master Painting, Mannerism, Baroque, Mythology, Prague
Located in Greven, DE
Hercules and Omphale Oil on panel, 52 x 41 cm According to legend, Hercules had to make atonement and became a slave to the Lydian queen Omphale. When she found out who her slave was, she married him. Falling for his mistress and made effeminate by the luxury of court life, the former hero allowed himself to become the laughing stock of the court. He dressed in women's clothes, spun wool and did other women's work, whereas Omphale wore his lion's skin and carried a wooden club. When the time of punishment was over, the hero realised his delusion and left Omphale. So far, the painting could not be clearly assigned to an artist. Nevertheless, it impresses with its fluid and convincing painting, whose colourfulness and conception are reminiscent of the Prague School around Bartholomäus Spranger. This work follows an engraving and an etching made by Michel Dorigny in 1643 after a design by Simon Vouet. It shows the same scene but the print differs in minor details from the present painting (see e.g. the head of the lion) and the treatment of the faces seems to be painted more detailed and refined. So far there is no painting...
