About the Item

⏩Into the Wild⏪ This work blends playful portraiture with an experimental mixed-media approach. At first glance, the image of a dachshund bright-eyed, with an inquisitive head tiltimmediately conveys warmth and personality. The juxtaposition of realistic animal depiction, abstracted meadow, and typographic backdrop creates a unique visual tension between the intimate and the conceptual. ☀️Composition and Layout☀️ The composition is vertically oriented, with the dachshund taking center stage. The head is slightly tilted to the dog’s right, engaging the viewer with an almost conversational directness. The body is elongated (a characteristic dachshund trait), but its lower half merges subtly into the painted grass, blending realism with a looser illustrative style. The background is composed of two distinct layers: 🟢Printed text layer: Continuous blocks of French literary, serve as the “canvas” instead of a blank surface. The typography brings rhythm and density to the backdrop. 🟢Painted foreground : A loosely painted meadow of green grass and scattered flowers frames the dog, with brushstrokes ranging from fine linear blades of grass to looser bursts of color for flowers. The dachshund’s dark coat stands out against the pale, text-heavy background, while the warm brown accents on its face, chest, and paws are echoed subtly in the flowers. ☀️Color Palette and Technique☀️ The artist uses a limited but effective palette: ➡️Dog : Deep blacks with warm russet highlights, built up with layered strokes to suggest fur texture. White highlights in the eyes add liveliness and depth. ➡️Grass : Bright, almost neon greens, applied with visible brushwork, contrast with the black fur and the monochromatic background text. ➡️Flowers : Pops of red, yellow, blue, and orange punctuate the field, breaking the dominance of green and guiding the eye across the lower third of the canvas. Technically, the work merges realism (dog’s facial structure, expression) with expressive painting (grass and flowers) and a graphic design element (printed text). The combination of crisp and loose brushwork adds visual variety. ☀️Symbolism and Interpretive Reading☀️ Several symbolic readings are possible: ⭐Narrative and character : The printed words may metaphorically “tell” the dog’s story, suggesting a personal narrative behind the portrait. ⭐Juxtaposition of nature and culture : The meadow and dog represent the organic and living, while the printed text stands for the human-made, intellectual world. Their superimposition hints at coexistence or tension between these realms. ⭐Personality capture : The dachshund’s tilted head, direct gaze, and poised stance express curiosity and alertness, qualities strongly associated with the breed. ⏩Technique: oil, acrylic, glue, ink on old book pages on wooden frame 40x40cm ■■ 15,7 x15,7inch⏪ ⭐Sustainability⭐: Wooden frame is made by the artist by recycling old books. In an ecological approach, each packaging is tailor-made and is itself from a recycling network. ⏩》R E A D Y -- T O -- H A N G《⏪ 🟢 → Original signed work. My work focuses on oxidized images from the collective memory of the 20th century. According to Aristotle, from memory to reminiscence, it is necessary to reactivate images through the imagination to know their sensitive power. Consequently, the gaze (of portraits) becomes power, texture becomes light. Finally, this transposition of images becomes my individual memory.

Hunt Slonem, Black and White Bunnies, Oil Painting 'White Diamond Dust'
By Hunt Slonem
Located in White Plains, NY
'White Diamond Dust' by Hunt Slonem, 2022. Oil and acrylic with diamond dust on canvas, 36 x 48 in. This painting features Slonem's signature bunnies outlined in black over a white, diamond dusted background. Considered one of the great colorists of his time, Slonem’s neo-expressionist paintings feature an exuberant and bold, fauvist palette to emphasize his beloved menagerie of animals. Through the application of lavish, lush colors, Slonem’s painterly style continues to be fresh and innovative bordering on Pop Art aesthetics. Depicting his signature motifs of repeating whimsical animal imagery, the artist’s devotion to nature and its inhabitants are apparent. Born in Kittery, Maine in 1951, Hunt Slonem graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting and Art History from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Slonem later attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, where he was exposed to influential artists from the New York area including Alex Katz, Alice Neel, Richard Estes, Jack Levine, Louise Nevelson and Al Held. This exposure played a pivotal role in Slonem’s artistic career, as it aided in his decision to move to New York in 1973. Since 1977, Slonem has had over 250 solo exhibitions at prestigious galleries. Museums, both domestic and international, have collected his work, among them Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. His work has been exhibited globally, including in Madras, Quito, Venice, Gustavia, San...
