About the Item
Nudity in art has historically been a contentious subject, often raising questions about beauty standards, objectification, and the human form. In "In My Solitude," however, Edwin treats nudity with sensitivity and purpose. The nude figure, devoid of clothing and external trappings, serves as a metaphor for vulnerability and raw authenticity. It becomes a powerful statement on embracing one's true self, stripped of societal expectations and external judgments.
The choice of the yoga position is not arbitrary in Edwin's composition. Yoga has long been associated with self-discovery, inner peace, and spiritual enlightenment. The woman's serene posture exudes a sense of calmness and introspection. Through this position, Edwin suggests that solitude and self-reflection are integral to personal growth and inner strength. It encourages viewers to embrace moments of introspection and find solace in their own thoughts, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of themselves.
Edwin's meticulous attention to detail and symbolism further enriches the narrative of "In My Solitude." The subtle play of light and shadow highlights the contours of the woman's body, accentuating the vulnerability and emotional depth captured in the artwork. The artist's skillful brushwork evokes a sense of intimacy, drawing the viewer into the private world of the subject.
The title itself, "In My Solitude," adds an additional layer of meaning. Solitude, often associated with loneliness, is reimagined as a source of inner strength and self-discovery. Edwin invites viewers to contemplate the transformative power of spending time alone, away from distractions and truly connecting with oneself.
Crixtover Edwin, known for his thought-provoking and emotionally evocative artworks, aims to create a space for viewers to reflect on their own journey of self-discovery and the significance of solitude. He encourages individuals to embrace vulnerability, appreciates their authentic selves, and find strength within their solitude.
"In My Solitude" by Crixtover Edwin is an exquisite artwork that encourages viewers to explore the power of solitude and self-reflection. Through the delicate depiction of a nude woman in a yoga position, Edwin captures the vulnerability, strength, and emotional depth that can be found in moments of introspection. The artwork serves as a reminder that embracing solitude can lead to profound personal growth and a deeper understanding of oneself. Edwin's creation resonates with its viewers, inviting them to embark on their own journey of self-discovery and find solace in their moments of solitude.

About Artist
Crixtover Edwin (b. 1996) is a Nigerian multidisciplinary visual artist specializing in figurative painting with a concentration on portraiture and visual emotions. His paintings are focused on depicting a celebratory narrative and representation of people of African descent. In allowing the intricacies of his subject's appearance, poses, and symbolic identity to be the sole focus, he emphasizes drawing attention to the distinctive celebration of people of color by addressing their image, status, and relevance in contemporary culture. Crixtover art usually constitutes a similar approach in terms of each subject depiction with attention to detail, body language, and visual emotionalism employing a signature Basquiat technique to the background and features of his subjects' persona and cultural symbols in a bid to represent black identity in contemporary art.
The distinct difference however is always black representation as people of color are placed at the forefront of his art for a purpose, specifically to denote power, representation, and celebration of their identity.
Crixtover believes portraits hold the potential to give power and relevance to those who are painted in a certain way and aims to use his art to create a bridge of beautiful works of art that reflects representation on black people who never got represented before, blurring the boundaries between traditional and contemporary modes of representation while using people of color as his subjects from ordinary everyday people to well-known individuals yet still showing their strength, royalty, beauty, and unapologetic aura highlighting what it feels like to be young, black and celebrated, a topic he believes needs to be exhibited enough throughout galleries and exhibitions.

The centerpiece of "Woman of Valor" is undoubtedly the woman's majestic afro hairstyle. In this artwork, the afro becomes a symbol of pride, cultural identity, and natural beauty. Historically associated with the Black community, the afro has been a powerful emblem of resistance, self-expression, and defiance against societal standards of beauty. By prominently featuring the afro, Edwin highlights the strength and resilience of women who embrace their heritage and challenge conventional norms.
The woman's stern gaze in "Woman of Valor" captures the viewer's attention and evokes a sense of determination and self-assuredness. The intensity of her gaze serves as a reminder that strength does not always manifest through loud or overt actions. It can also be found in the quiet confidence and unwavering resolve of an individual who knows her worth and stands firm in her beliefs. O Tempo Que Me Resta, 2023
Charcoal and Acrylic on Canvas
50 x 50 cm / 13.8 x 13.8 in
A meditation on time, introspection, and impermanence, O Tempo Que Me Resta by Ritchelly Oliveira is a deeply evocative piece that merges realism with poetic abstraction. This circular composition presents a contemplative figure, resting in thought, partially obscured by the dynamic presence of a bird in motion. The monochromatic rendering, enriched with subtle textures and intricate shading, invites the viewer into a quiet yet profound dialogue between stillness and flight.
Oliveira’s work is distinguished by his masterful use of charcoal, creating depth and contrast that feel almost sculptural. The seamless integration of the figure and bird suggests themes of memory, transition, and fleeting moments. The unconventional cut of the canvas further enhances the organic quality of the piece, making it stand out in both form and composition.
This painting is an exquisite example of Ritchelly Oliveira’s ability to balance technical precision with raw emotion. The intimate scale (50 cm diameter) allows for close engagement with the details, making it a striking addition to any collection. His works resonate with collectors who appreciate narrative-driven art—pieces that invite reflection and evolve in meaning over time.
The artwork is in impeccable condition, created using high-quality charcoal and acrylic on canvas. The contrast between deep blacks, soft greys, and delicate highlights gives it a tactile richness. The edges are finished, and the piece can be displayed as-is or framed according to preference.
Ritchelly Oliveira explores the tension between presence and absence, human emotion, and the natural world. O Tempo Que Me Resta reflects his signature approach—an interplay between hyperrealistic drawing and expressive abstraction. It is an invitation to pause and consider the passing of time, the weight of thought...
