Dorit Levi
Large Colorful Music Notes Israeli Modernist Oil Painting Dorit Levi Musical Art

About the Item

Dorit Levi, Israeli (Born 1952). 'Golden Sounds' Oil on canvas (possible acrylic on canvas or mixed media) Hand signed bottom right and on verso. Measures 20"H x 24"W, framed 33" H x 37" W. Dorit Levi was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1952, her Yemenite upbringing and culture playing an important role in her art. Her talent enabled her to study at the prestigious Wizo France Art School in her native city, where she had the great fortune to learn from one of Israel's greatest artists, Edwin Salomon. The artist's personal experiences in Uganda, Africa where she lived for several years, are reflected in many of her paintings. The vast savannas translate into the warm colors of backdrops, and the flow and movement of her vibrant figures are inspired by Uganda's colorful markets and the people in embroidered garb. Dorit's works are remarkable in her use of gold leaf and the enormous attention to detail and complex composition. Each time one looks at a Dorit Levi painting new aspects and new configurations are discovered. More than anything, the collectors of her contemporary artworks remark on the feeling of joy, optimism and peace they inspire. The influences of Bolivian artist Rodo Boulanger, as well as cubist Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger, and the cubism of Georges Braque are a background for the distinct signature of Levi's lyrical style, forged of her strong artistic vision and of a wealth of personal experiences. She shows at the prestigious Safrai Art Gallery in Jerusalem Israel and has been exhibited with Raphael Abecassis, Ben Simhon, Yosl Bergner, Naftali Bezem , Sami Briss, Amram Ebgi, Alexander Klevan, Gregory Kohelet, Yuvl Mahler, Ran Haya Graetz, Zina Rothman, Michael Rozenvein, David Sharir, Reuven Rubin, Theo Tobiasse, Yuri Tremler, Shraga Weil, Wissotzky and Avigail Yoresh,

Large French Expressionist Oil Painting, Girl, Poupèe, the Doll, Ecole de Paris
Located in Surfside, FL
Signed on recto and signed verso, titled, and inscribed Montmartre by the artist. This is a large colorful expressionist painting of a girl doll with long blonde or ginger redhead pigtails. It is titled Poupee 1925 and depicts an Art Deco era flapper girl in a beret. Roger Crusat (French Expressionist artist, poet and lithographer) is known for ballet troupe set design and theatre backdrop painting and architectural motifs. Roger Crusat was born in 1917 in Roussillon, Provence, France. Crusat's early works depict the colorful countryside of Provence in the South of France, As a young man Crusat performed many jobs in the troupe, designing costumes, and even dancing. But, most important, he painted the scenery for the troupe's performances. It was while working in this capacity that he learned the essentials of scenery painting that remain evident in his mature work. Crusat was a student of Andre Fons-Godail at Beaux-Arts in Perpignan when he was called to serve in World War II. After being wounded in 1940, he returned to study under Rene Jaudon at Beaux-Arts in Paris. Crusat was known by his contemporaries as "the Catalan painter of Montmartre" where he lived with his wife until his death in 1994. Cracked and peeling walls framed by rusting water pipes are a common sight in Montmartre. What others considered unnecessary, Crusat included. Water pipes were his cherished motif. Supposed by some to be a symbol of decay and monotony, Crusat's Impressionist water pipes like arteries in the body, convey life. Crusat won the prestigious Prix Populiste for his "Descente d'Eau" (Water Pipes) in 1956. Crusat's mature work retains the essentials of good scenery painting. Intricate detail will not be found, but broad, solid abstract shapes abound. His subtle colors, dense in texture, are meant to compliment his subjects, not distract from them. The critics considered him a lyric expressionist and a "painter of Man" in his portrayal of the anguish of daily life and the regrets of the past. Crusat exhibited at many of the same Salons as the post-impressionists and expressionists. Salon des Independants was co-founded by Georges Seurat. Degas had only one exhibition during his lifetime, and it was at the Galerie Durand Ruel in Paris. Gauguin had also exhibited his Tahitian paintings. Crusat's works were exhibited there in 1955. Damsel
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Damsel" is a work of art that immediately draws the viewer's attention to the glorious charm of the woman at its center. Adewale's portrayal of her low-cut hairstyle is a powerful statement that challenges conventional norms of beauty. With her hair styled so boldly, the subject exudes a sense of self-assuredness, breaking free from societal expectations and embracing her uniqueness. The woman's choice of a vibrant yellow dress further reinforces the celebration of feminine allure. Yellow, a color often associated with happiness and positivity, complements the woman's radiance, illuminating the canvas with her inner glow. This striking hue symbolizes her inner strength and vibrant spirit, echoing the confidence and dynamism that emanate from her presence. The blue background, in contrast, serves as a calming and harmonious setting, providing a perfect backdrop for the woman's portrayal. The serene blue not only accentuates her poise and elegance but also serves as a reflection of her depth and wisdom. It suggests that beneath her external charm lies a profound reservoir of inner grace and strength, making her all the more captivating and multidimensional as a subject. "Damsel" is more than just a beautiful portrait; it is a celebration of the richness and diversity of womanhood. Adewale's brushwork masterfully captures the subtle details of her facial features, highlighting the delicate contours of her lips and the gentle curves of her cheekbones. The artist's attention to detail emphasizes the individuality and uniqueness of the subject, celebrating the fact that each woman possesses her own distinct brand of charm and beauty. This artwork is not merely a passive representation but a self-conscious portraiture that actively engages the viewer. As we gaze upon the woman in "Damsel," we become participants in this celebration of femininity. Adewale invites us to appreciate and honor the beauty that exists within all women, encouraging us to recognize and celebrate the allure that each woman carries in her own unique way. In its essence, "Damsel" is a testament to the empowering nature of art. It breaks away from conventional stereotypes and standard definitions of beauty, presenting a woman who embraces her identity unapologetically. The artwork's appeal lies not only in its visual aesthetics but also in the powerful message it conveys to society, urging us to appreciate and cherish the diverse expressions of feminine charm. In conclusion, "Damsel" by Busari Adewale...
