About the Item

Farhad Hussain - Super Hero's Bathroom - 84 x 72 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style: Farhad Hussain's colourful work that includes drawings and watercolours besides paintings on canvas, features day to day visual experiences of middle-class urban India. He endows his narrative with iconography and personality through his figuration, their posturing, dress and the surrounding imagery. The drama of subtle complexities of human relationships and social environment are grounded with a sense of satire mixed with pathos. Farhad’s colours help enhance the brightness and aura of his paintings while he also partakes elements from traditions such as the formulaic textile patterns of Indian miniatures. His compositions are often set in a familiar drawing room or a social space, playing out with humour and sarcasm, the narrative psychologies of human life and encounters at various levels. This young artist who has also experimented with sculpture has already carved a niche and an instantly recognizable individualistic style befitting his aesthetics and concerns. Farhad has chosen to use tempera on cloth for his works, the media allowing him to achieve the desired vibrancy of colours. A slow build-up of images and spontaneous flow of colour while balancing colour and composition simultaneously follow structured formatting. This meticulous planning in the composition and layout is the beginning of a process from where onwards it is very spontaneous and intuitive. Another technique used throughout Farhad’s work is the method of applying the colour: dot-by-dot till the entire area is completely covered. Various elements from miniature paintings, Kalighat paintings, Japanese prints and images from mass media are scrutinized, transformed and transferred on to the surface through the artists own style of expression. Euroscape -2, Mixed Media on Canvas, Red, Blue by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Asit Poddar
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Asit Poddar - Euroscape - 2 - 8.5 x 8 inches (unframed size) Mixed Media on Canvas. Style : It is not enough to say that Asit Poddar is a multifaceted and greatly talented artist. Not only a gifted watercolorist, Poddar is also experienced and very well established in the fields of filmmaking, animation, photography, publishing, graphic designing and printmaking. For this artist, firsthand experience was a great source of inspiration. To look into the past - both recent and distant - is a creative process. It is this continuous flow of the past and the present that reflects richly in his paintings. In his works, you can see what he saw in his extensive travels to South Asian and European countries. You can feel the silence he felt on the mountains and revel in the world he sees through his mind's eye. His fluid lines and watercolor fills capture everything that Poddar takes in, from the vast expanse of high ominous peaks and deep dark gorges in black and white to the city of Varanasi and the river Ganges in vivid color. Human figures are missing in the paintings, but it seems like this is part of the artist's effort in his intent to leave a strong imprint in the mind of the viewer. About the Artist & his works : Education : 1980-82 : International Animation and Photography Institute, Japan 1972-77 : Government Art College, Kolkata. Feroz Khan - Untitled Acrylic on Canvas, 36 x 48 inches About Artist : Mohammad Feroz Khan was born in 1978 and brought up in Delhi. He have not undergone any formal training in Art but gained experience first from his Father Late Mohd Ibrahim Khan, a Banner Painter. Subsequently, under the able tutelage of renowned Artist Late Manjit Bawa (Guruji - his Mentor in Art) he studied and learned Art for 14 years. Bawa took much care to train him to use brush and pastels on a variety of subjects, also guided him to savor the beauty and nuances of Texture. Then, as an initial step, his Guru guided him through a maze of depictable visuals scattered over the all too familiar places of Delhi. He asked him to draw inspiration from real life. Deferential to my master’s academic style of figuration, he soon convinced his guru of deft brushmanship and ability to create naturalistic human and animal forms, avoiding explicit linear delineation, while projecting solid masses. He chose to see the ordinary things and scenes that make up for our everyday life. He look at the little details of a tailor working on a manual sewing machine or a street-side vendor selling a cool drink on a hot summer day or rickshaw pullers or beggars and various other street vendors – denizens of the city’s poorest quarters. It is the sheer simplicity of each of these activities that appeals him and is reflected through his Canvas. "Untitled (Superman)" Contemporary Blue & Red Comic Inspired Work on Aluminum
Located in Houston, TX
Contemporary DC comic inspired work by Texas based artist Michael Macedo Meazell. Created with UV cured inks on aluminum, the work has a unique sheen. The piece features a collage of different pop culture images from Superman comics and other sources to create an otherworldly landscape. Signed and dated on the reverse. Currently unframed, but options are available. Artist Biography from the Artist: "I have made art for as long as I can remember. When I was in high school in Beaumont, Texas, I would draw constantly. During high school, I took classes in painting, drawing, and design at the Beaumont Art Studio, Beaumont Art League, and the Art Institute of Houston. During the mid to late 1980s, I studied art, concentrating on design, drawing, sculpture, and painting at Lamar University and the MFAH Glassell School of Art on a scholarship. After leaving school I worked on the installation crew at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. That was a great time, because I was working with some talented people who are still making art today – David McGee and Tierney Malone to name a couple. While I was there, I learned museum quality handling of art and installations. I began making art with found materials while attending Lamar University, mostly wall-dependent works and collage from found wood, fabric, paper, and paint. I have always been a scavenger, partly because I never had much money and partly because it is a medium that I identify with. I continue working on assemblage and collage today, incorporating drawing, painting, printmaking, and traditional sculpture techniques into my pieces, often using objects that have a storied history to myself or others. I incorporate objects from others in my own work and for commissioned works of art. I worked at Judy Youens Gallery from 1990-1993, doing whatever needed to be done. She specialized in glass, so I became an expert in handling fragile works of art, which included installing them, building custom crates, and preparing them for shipping. While at the gallery I was also on the Art League and Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts boards. I designed, curated, and installed over 100 exhibitions though the 90s. I studied with a master carpenter from 1994-1999 and learned how to use a variety of hand and power tools, sourcing material, building techniques, as well as repurposing and fixing just about anything. This has served me well. Combining my art and design skills with my new building skills, I designed dozens of home remodels from single rooms and outdoor deck tops and complete homes from the ground up. I still do design work and consultations. I served on the Art League of Houston Board of Directors from 1991-1994, where I was president of the Artist Committee and a member of the Executive Committee. In 1997 I moved into an empty shell of a warehouse and immediately finished out the space with a large studio, kitchen, full bath, and bedroom loft. My Barnes Street Studio was next door to artist Harvey Bott...

Jose Palacios, "Ducha - Shower", 2013
By Jose Palacios
Located in New York, NY
In this original acrylic paint on canvas, Jose Palacios depicts a figure in a neo-cubist and pop art style in the shower. Using vibrant blues, pinks, purples, greens and yellows she is standing in the bath tub as the stream of water from the shower sprays over her. The style is reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein and Picasso. Palacios' work is characterized by it's geometry, precision of his figures and the use of a refreshing and bold palette. Jose Palacios was born in Spain in 1970. A self taught artist, he began his career in the world of comic books and illustration publications. He later transitioned to graphic design and street art. Jose was greatly influenced by the "Movida Madrileña" an explosive cultural period in the 1980's during Spain's transition from dictatorship to democracy which produced arist's such as Ceesepe, Fernando Vicente, Ana Juan, Ouka Leele and Javier de Juan.
