She was introduced to the practices of art from a very young age by her mother, also an artist. Observing her mother working from their home studio contributed to establishing the ethos of artistic discipline and creativity in Castiglia’s persona early on. Flora’s early works were designs developed for musicians and interpretations of record covers, and these influences have undoubtedly shaped the subtle undertones of Castiglia’s imagery which can be described a ‘melodic’. Her works are imbued with references of musical notes in both their form and carefully crafted composition, which, combined with a choice of muted, deep colour palette make her style instantly recognisable. Contemplative and visually compelling, Castiglia’s paintings explore the relationship between the inside and the outside together with the perception of our own bodies within these realms. Through patterns, shapes and colours, Flora deconstructs and plays with the rearrangement the places and familiar object within them. She transforms and merges interior and exterior worlds, creating an interdimensional space where potted plants and mountains exist within one abstract space organically.

Artificial Flowers, Contemporary Art, Abstract Painting, 21st Century
By Maite Pereda
Located in Mexico City, MX
Artificial Flowers, 2022 Contemporary Art, Abstract Painting Acrylic on canvas 82x62cm Frame included Signed and dated on the back About the artist Maite was born in Mexico City, where she now lives and works. Her work is based on the exploration and understanding of the use of colour as a tool to create a stronger connection between the viewer and the work displayed. Having her interest in colour arise from the common ground that exists between her personal experiences with the use of colour within the Mexican culture and the effects of colour she perceives from her personal artistic practice, she tries to use her work as a way to get familiar with both the far-reaching capabilities of colour and its resourcefulness when transforming everyday scenarios into desirable realities. As her practice has been developing, she has continually incorporated and simplified the idea of architectural shapes. The opportunity for objects to be defined by the simple outline of the flat colours that fill them paired with angular geometric devices has become integral to her practice. She has become increasingly captivated by the intensified sensation of placelessness that floods the compositions and transforms an everyday scene into a puzzling sight that stops the image from being simply an admirable image into a visually engrossing experience.
