Kenne Grégoire (b. 1951, Teteringen, Netherlands) is a Dutch painter renowned for his masterful blending of realism and surrealism. Educated at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, he studied under Otto B. de Kat, who profoundly influenced his understanding of composition and colour. In 1973, Grégoire was awarded the Silver Prix de Rome, a testament to his exceptional talent.
Grégoire employs 17th-century techniques, notably grisaille underpainting glazed with translucent layers of colour, often using acrylics. His subjects are diverse, ranging from trompe-l'œil still lifes that evoke memory and decay to theatrical scenes from the Commedia dell'Arte, where figures dressed in vibrant costumes express underlying emotions of loneliness and longing . Through these works, he invites viewers into an illusory world where beauty and imperfection coexist.
His art has been showcased in esteemed institutions such as the Drents Museum and Galerie Mokum in Amsterdam. Notably, in 2015, he painted a portrait of King Willem-Alexander for the municipality of Kampen. Grégoire's work continues to captivate audiences, offering a contemplative exploration of reality and imagination.
