A tragic scene by James Walter Gozzard. An elderly woman consoles a distraught young woman, while the raging sea beyond provides an explanation for her sorrow. Acquired as a pair, the companion piece (sr324) is also on our website and presents an inverse scene where the fleet return safely. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.
