"San Victoriano y compañeros mártires".
Firmado a mano en la parte inferior derecha. Y en la parte trasera inscripción a mano con información del pintor.
Óleo sobre tela.
Medidas: 60 x 40 cm. ; 73 x 54 cm. marco
Muy interesante óleo sobre lienzo representando a San Victoriano y compañeros mártires.
Gran calidad y colorido, muy bien compuesto, esta firmado con iniciales en la parte inferior derecha.
En la parte trasera hay una inscripción en rojo con el nombre y apellidos, fechas de nacimiento y fallecimiento; y las medallas con que fue premiado el pintor.
La pintura esta recién limpiada y en estado muy bueno, igual que el marco dorado que lleva.
José María Galván y Candela
(Madrid, 1837-1899). Pintor y grabador español. Estudió con Luis Fagúndez y en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid. Repartió su actividad entre el grabado, que fue donde más destacó, y la pintura religiosa. El Prado tiene más de setenta grabados suyos, la mayoría basados en las obras de Goya. En 1864 se presentó a la Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes con diferentes ensayos de grabado en acero y al aguafuerte, y obtuvo mención honorífica especial. En 1867 volvió a concurrir, esta vez en la sección de pintura, con Un boceto y Una Virgen, obra esta última por la que obtuvo medalla de tercera clase y la distinción de que fuera adquirida para el Museo del Prado. En 1876 volvió a presentarse con algunos grabados, y consiguió medalla de segunda clase, igual que en 1878, en que presentó copias al aguafuerte de los frescos de Goya de la ermita de San Antonio de la Florida. En 1881 presentó cuatro retratos. En 1897 obtuvo una primera medalla en la sección de grabado. Como ilustrador trabajó en periódicos y semanarios como El Arte en España, y trazó láminas para la Vida de Cervantes, de Jerónimo Morán.
SAN VICTORIANO Y COMPAÑEROS MARTIRES
Victorino, Victor, Nicéforo, Claudiano, Dióscoro, Serapión y Papias eran ciudadanos de Corinto, al principio del reinado de Decio, y confesaron ahí mismo la fe en Nuestro Señor ante el procónsul Tercio. Luego de ser torturados fueron enviados a Egipto y completaron su martirio a manos del gobernador Sabino. Victorino y Victor fueron despedazados en un mortero de mármol, Nicéforo saltó por su propio pie al mismo pozo de destrucción, al final su audacia molestó al juez quien ordenó se le matara a golpes. Claudiano fue descuartizado, Diáscoro fue quemado vivo, mientras que Serapión fue colgado de los pies y luego fue decapitado, y finalmente Papias, fue arrojado al mar con una piedra atada al cuello. La ejecución de los mártires tuvo lugar el 25 de febrero, día en que es conmemorado por los Martirologio de occidente. Los griegos veneran su memoria el 21 de enero, fecha en que confesaron la fe en Corinto
