About the Item

Mixed media & acrylic on canvas Barongan dance is a regional art form in Central Java. This barongan dance is very famous among the people, in this barongan dance it reflects the characteristics of simplicity, energetic, compact. courage and based on truth. The barongan dance is made to resemble a very graceful animal, identical to the ruler of the forest and the universe. The barongan dance is played in groups or many people and the dance movements imitate the might of large animals. The barongan dance is played with musical instruments such as geduk drums, bonang. saron, demung and kempul. Kusbudiyanto is an Indonesian artist born in 1969 who lives & works in Jogjakarta, Indonesia. He started his artistic career in working for a company engaged in the export of crafts and assisting artisans. His job was product development and craft design. Learning from making designs to crafts helps him in continuing his hobby of painting. He was asked by this company to take part in working in design in the Philippines in 1996 and in the Netherlands in 2000. At the beginning of 2016 he learned to paint with canvas. He tried to paint with many themes such as the tradition of Satu Suro, Keris and other themes such as shadow puppet performances. These works were purchased by Mr. Seno Samudro who is the head of the Boyolali area in 2017. In 2018, he took part in the exhibition for the first time in Yogyakarta at Nandur Srawung, the participants were painters and sculptors throughout Indonesia, then Budaya Yogyakarta in 2019, Singapore in 2020 and many others exhibitions later. This painting tells the story of a father and his son who live near the forest. Their life is very simple every day, just farming and occasionally looking for fruit, honey which can be sold to the city and looking for dry tree branches which they use as fuel for cooking and some of which they sell to the city. They really love their life living in a village near the forest far from the city, they are very familiar with the path in the middle of the forest which they pass every day to look for fruit and twigs. And they really care about the animals that live in the forest, they don't like hunting animals, in fact they really care for and maintain life in the forest by not destroying the forest. Because by protecting the forest, life in the village is well maintained. Water sources are maintained and village people use water for farming and other basic needs such as cooking, bathing and so on. By protecting the forest, the beauty and diversity of living creatures living in the forest can be maintained and provide benefits for everyone.

Hunt Slonem, Black and White Bunnies, Oil Painting 'White Diamond Dust'
By Hunt Slonem
Located in White Plains, NY
'White Diamond Dust' by Hunt Slonem, 2022. Oil and acrylic with diamond dust on canvas, 36 x 48 in. This painting features Slonem's signature bunnies outlined in black over a white, diamond dusted background. Considered one of the great colorists of his time, Slonem’s neo-expressionist paintings feature an exuberant and bold, fauvist palette to emphasize his beloved menagerie of animals. Through the application of lavish, lush colors, Slonem’s painterly style continues to be fresh and innovative bordering on Pop Art aesthetics. Depicting his signature motifs of repeating whimsical animal imagery, the artist’s devotion to nature and its inhabitants are apparent. Born in Kittery, Maine in 1951, Hunt Slonem graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting and Art History from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Slonem later attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, where he was exposed to influential artists from the New York area including Alex Katz, Alice Neel, Richard Estes, Jack Levine, Louise Nevelson and Al Held. This exposure played a pivotal role in Slonem’s artistic career, as it aided in his decision to move to New York in 1973. Since 1977, Slonem has had over 250 solo exhibitions at prestigious galleries. Museums, both domestic and international, have collected his work, among them Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. His work has been exhibited globally, including in Madras, Quito, Venice, Gustavia, San...
