DESCRIPTION Market of Olot, Spain by Manuel Zamora Muñoz depicts a costumbrist scene on a tree-lined street in the Catalan city, with market stalls and human figures distributed throughout a vibrant, everyday setting. The painterly treatment is loose and dynamic, with impasto brushwork that reveals the artist’s confident and agile hand. The interplay of filtered light through the trees and the deep perspective creates a lively atmosphere, capturing the market’s activity with emotional realism. Earthy tones, greenish greys, and reddish highlights evoke the spirit of mid-20th-century Olot. ABOUT THE ARTIST Manuel Zamora Muñoz (Morón de la Frontera, 1928 – Olot, 2006) was a naturalist and impressionist painter trained at the School of Fine Arts in Olot. His work focuses on landscapes and everyday life, with a notable command of atmosphere and light.
