Raya, like every productive artist, is a collection of actions, utopias and talents. He is an acrylic painter and a muralist; an installation artist and a practitioner of the theory of the fragment as a synthesis of the whole; he is Chicano but his work has no passport; he is an obsessive self-portraitist (I, as the multiplicity locked within the I) and his an advocate of his community (in the fullest sense of the world); his is from Chicago and - being a nation onto himself - is a native of his art education; his yearns for the Tijuana of tomorrow while being a full-fledged inhabitant of the Tijuana of half a century back; he admires high-tech while being a fan of Frida Kahlo. --Carlos Monsivais...

The Magic War - Surreal Disney Characters, Highly Detailed Original Painting
By Oliver Hazard Benson
Located in Chicago, IL
The painting is based on the sketch I made for a friend who in the early 90's wrote an account of his years as an occultist in Berkely, CA during the 1970's and 80's. He apprenticed himself to a charismatic magician. The latter believed himself to be both the returned Christ and the magical child (incarnated spell) of the infamous Alestair Crowley. This magician took on the form of Mickey Mouse in order to carry out his ministry, the ultimate goal of which was to be crowned at the Vatican. In time the apprentice became roused to individuate from his master and took the Satanic role in the form of Donald Duck (the avian predator of mice: Horus the Avenger...

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Creating is an addiction. With all the highs and lows you would expect.
I am interested in the surface textures and creating paintings that portray them in realistic detail. Hopefully a viewer will feel they can run a hand over the feathers and moss, or grasp an object in the painting.
This detail is usually composed in an abstract design. The design can occur naturally or be arranged by me.
The subjects of my paintings are usually based on the patterns and textures of nature and human interaction with nature. I have found subjects to paint in remote wilderness areas of the world, local parking lots, and my own backyard.

Hunt Slonem, Black and White Bunnies, Oil Painting 'White Diamond Dust'
By Hunt Slonem
Located in White Plains, NY
'White Diamond Dust' by Hunt Slonem, 2022. Oil and acrylic with diamond dust on canvas, 36 x 48 in. This painting features Slonem's signature bunnies outlined in black over a white, diamond dusted background.
Considered one of the great colorists of his time, Slonem’s neo-expressionist paintings feature an exuberant and bold, fauvist palette to emphasize his beloved menagerie of animals. Through the application of lavish, lush colors, Slonem’s painterly style continues to be fresh and innovative bordering on Pop Art aesthetics. Depicting his signature motifs of repeating whimsical animal imagery, the artist’s devotion to nature and its inhabitants are apparent.
Born in Kittery, Maine in 1951, Hunt Slonem graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting and Art History from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Slonem later attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, where he was exposed to influential artists from the New York area including Alex Katz, Alice Neel, Richard Estes, Jack Levine, Louise Nevelson and Al Held. This exposure played a pivotal role in Slonem’s artistic career, as it aided in his decision to move to New York in 1973.
Since 1977, Slonem has had over 250 solo exhibitions at prestigious galleries. Museums, both domestic and international, have collected his work, among them Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation, and the New Orleans Museum of Art.
His work has been exhibited globally, including in Madras, Quito, Venice, Gustavia, San...

My Companion
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
My Companion is a painting that highlights the relationship that existed between human and their pet, especially dogs. The untold loyalty, devotion, love, intimacy, and friendliness are very evident in this painting. The love which humans cannot get from fellow humans is being received by animals.
My Companion shows that it is not gainsaying that humans receive succor from animals from time immemorial. The dog is seen imitating the lady by holding a flower just like the lady does. The icons and motifs generated from peacock feathers are weaved around the lady to reflect the elegance, pride, and independent status of the subject.
