Marie-Lucie Nessi Valtat was a French painter born in Paris on July 9, 1910. She studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, where she met artists like Jacques Hélion and Foujita. In 1932, she married Jean Valtat, the son of painter Louis Valtat. Although encouraged by her father-in-law to pursue painting, her duties as a wife and mother limited her artistic career.
After her divorce in 1949, she started a ceramics workshop but later turned to painting full-time with the support of Suzanne Valadon, her mother-in-law. She traveled widely and exhibited her work in numerous salons and galleries. In 1971, she signed an exclusive contract with Wally Findlay Galleries, leading to exhibitions in Chicago, Paris, Beverly Hills and New York.
Marie-Lucie Nessi Valtat’s work, influenced by Impressionism, was well-received in the United States. She passed away on December 4, 1992, in Villiers-le-Bel.
