Mariska Karto"Soulcollector" By Mariska Karto, Original Surrealist Photography
About the Item
"Soulcollector" is a striking gothic surrealist painting by acclaimed realist painter Mariska Karto, created with oil paint, photo paper, and an aluminum plate.
Mariska was born in Suriname – South America. Originally Surinamese, Indonesian, African and a little bit Dutch. She grew up in the Netherlands.
Growing up in beautiful Vermeer city, living in Rembrandt country the Netherlands, got in touch with Venice for an assignment for a perfume-brand and was deeply touched by Venice baroque art, architecture and history. All these influences in her life, inspired her.
Mariska began incorporating these inspirations into her own work, with influences from her life and existence.
Mariska spends a lot of time carefully constructing her sets, which also involves her other talents. She sketches with charcoal, works with gold, textiles, and is an excellent photo manipulator. All of her talents come together in every piece of work she creates.
Mariska photographs women, including bold women in glamorous, mysterious, and beautiful settings, with soft skin tones and a touch of fantasy in a sensual emotive atmosphere, combined with the sensitivity of the old masters. The women she photographs seem unaware of their surroundings but remain irresistibly dominant.
As she continued to develop her art, Mariska became increasingly interested in her existence. She traveled after long, long time to her birth-country and went deeper into the Amazon Rainforest. Here she became attracted and impressed by the Rainforest, her native land and the power of nature and landscape. A new nature challenge began and the road to where it will bring her is a new journey.
Mariska makes work with a lot of energy, dynamics and influences from her contemporary life as well as work in which she can find sensitivity and peace.
Color, shape, atmosphere and more are connecting elements in her work.
Her life has shown that she needs both: the energy and peace in her work for balance within herself.
She also creates epic hyperphotocollages, works that takes much imagination but also effort, time and energy to create.
Mariska is a global artist and has exhibited internationally several times.
Mariska Karto started her career as photo artist in 2010 and in 2012 officially. In short time she has won various well known international awards (including the PX3 Prix De La Photographie De Paris, First place Gold Award, in complete category Professionals Fine Art) and is also nominated as Ambassador of tolerance in 2016.”
