About the Item
This painting invites the viewer into a hushed interior filled with tension, memory, and quiet symbolism. A woman in a simple black dress stands with her back turned, unmoving—caught in a moment that feels both intimate and otherworldly. A black cat sits beside her on a red rug, its gaze fixed toward an unseen point, as if it senses something just beyond the frame.
A light from an arched window falls on a plant whose long leaves mirror the woman’s stillness. On the wall a pendulum clock swings gently—a hypnotic reminder of time passing, or perhaps standing still.
The cat, the clock, the silence—all elements seem to whisper a warning. The title, Don’t Turn Around — They’re Still Here, adds a layer of suspense. Who are “they”? Are they real, imagined, past, or present? The woman’s refusal to face us—paired with the cat’s unblinking stare—creates an atmosphere where time and presence blur.
This is a meditation on absence, on waiting, on the things we feel but do not name. The painting speaks in the language of shadows and stillness, inviting viewers to listen closely—to what’s not said, and to who might still be here. Dutch acrylic paints Amsterdam and Italian fine-grained cotton canvas tm Unico were used in the work. Finish - satin varnish. The ends are painted. Series "Life in Avatar". This artwork is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
