About the Item
This contemporary figurative piece with abstract touches, depicting two women, was created by French artist Natalya Mougenot. Through her dynamic approach, Mougenot explores the intricate and emotional bond between the women, capturing both vulnerability and strength. The artwork titled "Sisters" portrays the two women in an intimate embrace, their forms interwoven with bold, expressive strokes that evoke a sense of raw connection. Mougenot employs a limited yet striking color palette dominated by deep blues and vibrant oranges, creating a powerful contrast that commands attention. The women’s faces, shadowed and contemplative, suggest a shared introspection, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexity of their relationship.
In blending abstract elements with figurative representation, Mougenot invites a personal interpretation of the narrative, allowing the viewer to engage with the emotional undercurrent of the piece. The gestural lines and textured medium lend a tactile, unrefined quality to the artwork, amplifying its emotional depth and intimacy.
What makes Mougenot’s work even more captivating is the unique nature of each piece. As an artist who works entirely in the present moment, she cannot repeat her own creations. Each artwork is an expression of her emotional state and artistic vision at a specific point in time, making every piece a one-of-a-kind reflection of her evolving process.
At its core, the piece exemplifies three essential principles of artistic creation: authenticity, simplicity, and art naïve. The authenticity in Mougenot's work emerges through the unfiltered portrayal of emotion, while the simplicity is conveyed in the pared-down forms and pure color choices that allow the emotional impact to shine through. The art naïve quality is evident in the rawness of the brushstrokes and the unpolished, almost primal representation of the women, evoking a childlike honesty and spontaneity. Together, these elements form a poignant and evocative study of human connection, vulnerability, and the power of shared experience.
This unique and emotionally charged artwork will undoubtedly add a contemporary touch to any interior, making it not only a visual centerpiece but also a source of deep reflection and conversation.
Created with oil pastels on heavyweight professional acid-free paper, this artwork is sold unframed, giving you the freedom to frame it according to your personal taste and the style of your space. Pictures of the painting framed are provided for inspiration.
The artwork is signed on the front and back by the artist, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its provenance.
As a one-of-a-kind original piece, it will be carefully packaged for international shipping from France to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.

Natalya is a contemporary artist from Lyon, France. She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes and low mountains. She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country. She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis when she was struggling with radical life changes. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now. Several years ago painting became more than a hobby. It became a way of expressing her emotions and visions, a successive reaction to events of either personal or general concern. Her artist statement: “ I paint as it’s a necessity for my soul to express itself. Being creative for me is overcoming the restrictions. My art is a piece of my soul. I hope my art inspires reflection, provides a release and forms connection at other people’s souls”. She has developed her own vision of art through practicing a lot. She makes use of varying degrees of figuration, abstraction and impressionism by adding a contemporary twist. Abstract art for her is an interesting challenge for understanding inner feelings, a self-expression based on an intuitive approach. In figurative art her main subject remains women. Her artworks representing women contain the raw emotions of women. She also communicates the importance and the power of strong female relationships: “Women are enriched when they bond with each other”. She works in series: among them are "Heart-mind connection" of abstract artworks, "Women", "Bond", "Florals", "Springtime"... She uses various mediums ( acrylic, oil, watercolor, oil pastels) to create her unique artworks either on canvas or on paper. But she mainly uses acrylic as she works very quickly and expressively by finishing her artwork in one sitting. If Natalya had to pick one quote about her art, she would say : " Art is the reflection of the soul". Natalya goes with her gut and intuition to choose the colors, the lines, the shapes and the texture. She hopes her artworks will give a home a unique personality by filling it with life and color. Her sources of inspirations are Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, George-Daniel de Monfreid, Paul Gauguin. She also admires the artworks of Joan Mitchell and Banksy.

Amoureuses by Grégoire Mathias — Acrylic — Bold Cubist Portrait of Two Women
Located in PÉRIGUEUX, FR
Amoureuses (Women in Love)
Acrylic on Canvas
41 x 33 cm
In Amoureuses, Greg Mathias delivers an emotionally charged dual portrait that merges bold modernism with raw intimacy. Two female figures emerge from a tapestry of angular lines, fragmented planes, and vibrant contrasts. Black contours define and disrupt the forms, while saturated reds, yellows, and earth tones highlight the figures' lips, hair, and eyes with almost theatrical intensity.
Mathias’s Diachronic Cubism is palpable in this compact yet powerful composition. The faces appear to hold more than one emotional state or temporal expression, inviting the viewer to imagine multiple layers of affection, memory, or desire unfolding across time. The figures are both stylized and expressive—unified yet distinct—suggesting a narrative of closeness, duality, or romantic introspection.
Executed in acrylic on canvas, this smaller-format work makes an immediate impact and is well-suited for collectors of contemporary figurative cubism. It’s a standout piece for those interested in bold color palettes, emotional resonance, and distinctive portraits with modern edge.
Perfect for:
Collectors of modern figurative cubism, lovers of expressive portraiture, and buyers seeking a compact yet high-impact artwork. Ideal for interiors emphasizing bold lines, vibrant colors, and character-driven contemporary art.
