About the Item
Natasha Wright's art probes the politics of representation of the female form. Gender, sexuality, vulnerability and power, seduction and aggression - these dualities motivate the dynamics of her work.
The painting "PEACH BLACK", in oil paint, oil stick and glitter on canvas, is a supreme example – bold though quietly elegant, the black oil paint and glitter are both background and body, the outline of the female form, her torso and hair, lift up through out of the black field. Measuring 20x16" in size, it's an erotic gem.
From Natasha Wright – "The paintings reference the political and the personal. The representation of females throughout history is considered alongside contemporary references. The Venus of Willendorf, Mary Magdalena, The Three Graces and Cardi B are some of my many muses."
Natasha Wright's paintings were shown recently at Fresh Paint, a group show at Art of Our Century Gallery in Greenwich Village, New York, from February 27 to March 22, 2020.
In May 2017 Natasha earned her Masters of Fine Arts, (Painting) from The New York Studio School. She was awarded The New York Studio School Scholarship, The Jane Chace Carroll Merit Award and the LCU Award. In 2017 she co-founded JMN Artists, a curatorial collaboration and artists’ initiative.
Natasha has exhibited in New Zealand, Australia and The United States. Her work has been included in publications such as Harpers Bazaar, Art Critical, The New Zealand Artist Magazine, The Denizen and The New Zealand Herald. Natasha's work is also held in private collections in Australia, New Zealand, The United Kingdom and The United States.

"Strengths and Weaknesses", acrylic, charcoal, art history, abstract, portrait
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Strengths and Weaknesses" is a portrait exploring several elements and strategies that fascinate the artist – notably the performance anxiety induced by simply being an artist, staring down the freight train of art history as it hurtles toward you every time you pick up a brush. Luck? Talent? Maybe. There are signposts and guides in this painting, of course (Cubism! Surrealism! Brancusi! Guston!), but they can clobber you too if you're not careful. Even the phrase "strengths and weaknesses" smacks of compromises and rationalization – deadly to an artist looking to construct their own integral world.
"Strengths and Weaknesses" is an acrylic and charcoal on canvas measuring 54" tall by 54" wide. It was included in the artist's solo show "Comedy Cellar" at Freight + Volume Gallery, New York City in July 2018. (See last photograph for an installation view.)
From Daniel Gerwin – "Schenck’s color is vibrant, wild, saturated to the point of overheating, and altogether brilliant in the balancing of hues, temperatures, shapes, and color quantities. The paintings have a remarkable coherence for their dizzying juxtaposition of so many small chromatic passages." (Essay: The Anxiety and the Ecstasy)

Untitled, paint and collage on treated paper

Tasmanian-born artist Shane Drinkwater harnesses his interest in ancient manuscripts, cartography and astronomy to produce abstract artworks of mystery and beauty. All of his artworks are Untitled and measure approximately 20x20" (50x50 cm). Most are unframed and ship carefully rolled in a tube.
Using acrylic paint on reclaimed paper – dressmaker’s pattern sheets or dyed parchments – his visual vocabulary of dots and dashes, spheres and numbers render his vision as highly coded maps of cosmic systems, secret alphabets...
