About the Item
Acrylic on canvas,
Nino Nasidze is a Georgian painter born in 1968 who lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Text by Ketevan Akhobadze, art critic.
Time consistently changes dynamically, alongside human lives shift as well intermitently. Therefore sequential alteration of events (phenomena) provides further directions for development. Art works of the painter Nino Nasidze undoubtedly attracts the attention of the audience. Minimalistic shapes, composition, creates an emotional connection between ourselves, nature, and the artist. A flamboyant range of colors, episodes of bright contrast tones simultaneously with the feeling of restrained touch of the brush with the canvas illustrating colors depicting peace, while others suggest infinite possibility. Contemporary art works frequently require description and interpretation. Fine art such as classic painting, by traditional understanding, obtains different shapes and therefore required interpretation because there is no other direct way to understand this phenomena. Modern art manifests conceptual character and its language plays external descriptive roles. It should be noted that today there is a process of development of the language of contemporary art which is looking for its own diverse path. Right though this new language is, it is striving for self-determination. The processes occurring in the linguistic environment of contemporary art show that in the current time-space and socio-cultural environment the form of manifestation of the work is the main element for its understanding. This new stage of Nino Nasidze’s art shows multilateral and ambiguous character because it is based on searching for something new, new comprehension of the universe, that led to the artist’s reevaluation of spiritual values. That’s why the language chosen by the painter expresses interest with it’s frequently hidden content by transformation of signs and symbols. Today, art represents complicated phenomena and at the same time it is intense and full of contradictions. Against the background of ongoing interesting and diverse processes all over the world, multiple types of art are connected to each other. These types are tightly intertwined so that it’s often not clear where one type ends and where another begins. And yet, despite the diverse processes in the world, each art work created in the socio-cultural space of modern-day absurdity carries its form, content, specific qualities. Meanwhile, painters offer to us spectators a dialogue, a kind of engagement on the level of our feelings and emotional state that emerges in a cultural exchange approaching such a contextual frames as personal and cultural identity. Summarizing the above, contemporary art gives society the opportunity for reflection and depicts those values that are so important in the world. Modern art conveys ideas of our times and different concepts. It even crosses the borders of traditional art and the borders of art itself as it is understood and accepted by modern and classic art. The works of the painter Nino Nasidze precisely represents our time’s art.

From 2001 to 2004, she studied Fine arts at the Art and Architecture University in Tehran.
At the same time, she taught visual arts to children during 15 years.
Passionate about photography, she trained in photography in 2007 at the House of Photography in Tehran.
In 2012, she moved to France. Confronted with her new life, her vision of the world changed.
Since 2020, she has resumed training in photography at the EFET School in Paris.
Zahra ZEINALI
The Doll’s House
“What can a true artistic temperament aspire to after a youth spent in Iran today?
To flee the hassles, prejudices, restrictions, to open wide a window of freedom rich in potentialities that were believed for a long time inaccessible. Zahra Zeinali became a visual arts teacher for fifteen years. Her pupils are 6 to 12 years old. Drawing, sculpture, painting, model design, she taught them a great diversity of techniques, but above all to think and design freely by themselves, in an atmosphere of joyful creative disorder which, surprisingly, is tolerated by a careful hierarchy. Then she studied four years at the University of Art and Architecture in Tehran.
When she arrived in France, after a brief abstract period inspired by the rhythms of nature, it was at the time of the Charlie Hebdo and Bataclan attacks, which marked her deeply, to the point of lastingly darkening the ideal of emancipation and autonomy that she had projected on her stay in Paris. "There is no paradise on earth" she concluded with a melancholy smile. An old doll, bought for 1 euro in a storage room, triggers a click in her. The bitter imprint left by the Iranian confinement, the memory of her fifteen years of teaching visual arts to children, the loneliness of her Parisian exile, all this sentimental nebula found a plastic metaphor in the image of the doll. This is what these delicate earthenware faces evoke, often abused, abandoned, the childish innocence of their ingenuous gazes, a sort of strange absence from the world of the living, as if their attenuated life took place behind the mystery of a theater curtain...
