Norman Rockwell
Young Love: Walking to School, Four Seasons Calendar Illustration

1949

About the Item

Illustrated for the 1949 Four Seasons Calendar, published by Brown and Bigelow. A young girl holds a freshly-picked bouquet of flowers as she strolls alongside a boy who carries her books to school on an early autumn day. From 1948 to 1964, Norman Rockwell created Brown and Bigelow's iconic Four Seasons calendar series, which adorned over 50 million households and featured lighthearted scenes of seasonal activities. Rockwell's knack for storytelling through his naturalistic style and subtle humor made this series one of Rockwell’s most commercially-successful endeavors of his career.
