Paul Micich
'Vujá Dé, ' by Paul Micich, Acrylic and Alkyd on Canvas Painting, 2016

2016

About the Item

This 40" x 30" acrylic and alkyd on canvas painting, 'Vuja De,' by Paul Micich is from the artist's 'Paper Airplane' series. A headless black coat wearing figure stands in the forefront and middle of a red color background. At the collar of the coat is an upward explosion of white paper airplanes. "oh no not me not you we have our plan the path is plain to see we’ll stick to it it all adds up I’M SURE …I’ll just take a moment Can a coat have a gesture? Can it have a sense of dimension with monochrome brush strokes on a flat canvas? Can a flat red ground help bring that illusion to life? What is the perspective in a piece of folded paper? What kind of shadows would those pieces of paper make? All these ingredients are familiar. Are they enough?" -- Paul Micich "I was a musician before I was an artist. It informs all my work. There’s that place between the necessity of discipline and the necessity of letting go, of following a map and then throwing it away. The face I found in this canvas led me to a place where there was no map, no footpath, just the exuberance of the paint and the brush and whoever I am. The people who inhabit my paintings are dreamers, but I can’t will their dreams, or the viewer’s connection to them. I can only search for them, one brushstroke at a time, one beat at a time, until I hear their music. Then I can hope you’ll hear it too." -- Paul Micich Micich’s work has earned him Gold and Silver awards from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. His work has been chosen to be in illustration annuals for Communication Arts magazine, The Society of Illustrators (New York) and Spectrum International Annual for Fantastic Art. His illustrated edition of the book, "The Littlest Angel," has sold over 1.4 million copies. His illustrated book, "She Taught Me to Eat Artichokes," by Mary Kay Shanley, has been a regional best-seller. Micich illustrated "The Memory Box" and "Rhythm of the Seasons," also picture books with stories written by Mary Kay Shanley. Micich’s band, WORLD PORT, plays his original “world-view” instrumental music. They have five CDs. Micich has performed throughout the Midwest and the nation, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. WORLD PORT has played for art festivals in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota, California and Washington State.

'I'll Be Back, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
'I'll Be Back,' by XVALA is a mixed media painting and colorful screen print with iridescent oil stick painting featuring the theme of the 'New World Order.' It was produced in 2015/16. The phrase 'I'll Be Back' is printed on the top and bottom margins of the work with the words 'New World Order' on the top margin. Three heads are stacked in the center of the canvas with the 'all seeing eye' on the top of the head. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

A Woman of My Dream I - Original Figurative Portrait Painting on Canvas
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Mohamad Khayata’s original figurative artworks are the result of five years of displacement and deal with themes of migration, memory, and identity. Mohamad’s paintings convey an array of emotions, ranging from bliss and comfort to tension and uncertainty. Many of his paintings portray a sense of transience, which is all the more palpable when considering that Khayata's intimate work is a tribute to displaced people and to their daily life stories that, far from familiar surroundings, are filled with effort and hope. Khayata created this original painting with acrylic on canvas. It is 31 inches tall by 23 inches wide. It is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas. This painting is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this original work. Born in Damascus, Syria, artist Mohamad Khayata was forced to flee his home country due to ongoing political conflict. Khayata has been living in Beirut, Lebanon since 2012. His work is a resounding call for transformation and unity within his home country. His photography project "Stitching my Syria back" was chosen to be part of Journeys Festival International 2016 as a landmark for the “Look up” project in Leicester, where his photographs were installed on ten buildings. In the last five years, Khayata also participated in ten collective exhibitions across Europe and the Middle East. Holding his BA in Fine Arts obtained at Damascus University, Khayata is a bastion of Syrian legacy, memory, home, and happiness.
