Samantha Buller
"Feed, " Oil Painting

2021

About the Item

Samantha Buller's (US based) "Feed" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts a stack of yellow hay bales. Bio/artist statement: Samantha Buller currently lives in Sonoma County after painting and teaching in Kansas for the past two years. She received her BFA in Painting from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Originally from the Bay Area, her work reflects the beautiful light and modernism that is found in Northern California. Her work has been shown in the Hall of Justice in downtown San Francisco, in businesses and several galleries, as well as on the set of a prime time television show. She studied a semester abroad in Italy, which has greatly influenced her love and passion for the arts. “Italy was full of rich, golden colors. The culture is truly inspiring for any type of artist and to have the opportunity to paint while standing amongst an Italian sunflower field, should be one experienced by all.” Her love of color completely drives her work. She is inspired by the art of Wayne Thiebaud for his paint application, color, and composition, as well as the works of Raimonds Staprans for his layering techniques. She chooses to paint simplistic objects to create a clean, strong design, sharing interest with the negative space. In years past, 60/60/90 was titled The 60/60/60 Challenge- a group of 60 small paintings, completed in approximately 60 minutes each, over the course of 60 days. This challenge for myself is a chance to develop my quick painting skills and a way to find balance between the loose painterly feel that I enjoy so much, and the more refined large works that I continue to pursue. I revel in the freedom a 60 minute painting can bring- I am forced to make quick decisions and to use deliberate mark making, a very energetic experience. In addition, this concept also gives me the opportunity to put affordable art into the world, while continuing to support myself as an artist and contributing to our family of three. The subject matter I pursue is mostly still-life and landscape, with a few figurative pieces mixed in. This allows me to stay absorbed over the duration of the challenge and truly enjoy each new small painting with a fresh start. Color, along with a strong sense of light are what inspire me, with the hopes of bringing beauty to simplicity in every day objects or scenes. 2020 had different plans (as it did for everyone) and this year’s 60/60/60 turned into 60/60/90. Yes, it took 90 days this year to complete, as we navigated through the first half of the year, but 60 paintings were still completed and I love the almost installation-type feel created by showing them all together in one space. - With gratitude, Samantha Buller

Rocks Glasses
By Inkyeong Baek
Located in New York, NY
Oil painting on canvas by female Korean artist based in New York. Hyper-realistic, Trompe-l’œil painting that depicts an assortment of glass vessels. The glasses seem to pop off the canvas through optical illusion that renders the image in three-dimensions. Sensational paintings of glass vessels come to life in this dynamic exhibition featuring new works by Korean artist Inkyeong Baek. Demonstrating an uncanny ability to capture her subject-matter, Baek’s enchanting oil paintings glitter with a gemstone-like quality that truly captivates. The material characteristics of glass are fickle, often visually elusive. Yet each work on display beautifully illustrates, in stunning, hyper-realistic detail, an array of objects, from champagne flutes to whisky tumblers. Take the large-scale painting, Rocks...
