About the Item

Sanatan Dinda - Musician - 48 x 60 inches (unframed size) Oil on Canvas, 2001 Style : Sanatan Dinda discovers the beautiful amidst the ruins of a dilapidated city; his work becomes lyrical while he puts his signature on the curves and cleavages of sculpted human bodies. Born in the intestines of North Kolkata, the lanes and by lanes of Kumartuli, the squalor and the dirt, the refinement and nuances of a traditional craft of idol-making, the ancient river, the lonely bathing places taught him everything. Poverty all around, Sanatan had enough courage, even in his formative years, to convince himself that eternity could be invented, here and now, in a day. His art, both sculpture and painting, engages in a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Today, his work can be considered to be a prime example of contemporary Bengali visual culture. For last few years, Sanatan has been trying to stress upon traditional clay-sculpting – primarily the local popular sculpture of Mother-goddesses – as an extension of mainstream art within the domain of modern installation art practices . About the Artist and his work : Born : 1971 Education : First class graduate in painting from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. Works : His acceptance is far and wide, from Buckingham Palace to Sachin Tendulkar’s drawing-room. He grew in stature to be the first Indian artist having a displayed portrait of Mother Teresa at the Buckingham Palace. His connoisseurs include a diverse range of people, from Sanjib Goenka,Harsh Goenka,Tina Anil Ambani,Shaharukh Gouri Khan and Jyoti Vikram Thapar to Amitabh Bachchan. His work is included in private collections of that of Amjad Ali Khan, RPG Enterprises, Reliance Industries, Ballarpur Industries Limited, etc. His exhibition at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Kolkata on 28–29 January 2010 was inaugurated by Amjad Ali Khan and his wife.

Anil Kumar Yadav - Aradhana-76 Acrylic on Canvas 36 x 48 inches, 2024 ( Rolled & Delivered ) STYLE : Anil Kumar Yadav is an Artist from Kolkata who was born in 1984 a village in Uttar Pradesh. He grew up among villagers with modest lives and the village culture. The Rangolis at the village festival and the local potters’ fine works of art inspired him greatly towards art as a hobby and potential career from early childhood. His father was then posted to Kolkata so their family relocated to the city. Once the capital of India, with its rich cultural heritage and character immediately caught my attention. He started painting for the first time in the city. Since the central theme to his paintings is related to present day society, his works appear photographic or naturalistic. The religious ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar and other antique places attracted him for their cultural heritage characterised by the holy saints, antique architectures, old idol sculptures and mysticism, spirituality. So he portrayed the simplicity of the architectural doors, temples, sculptures and the beautiful narrow streets and ‘galis’ which holds beauty that can not be described in words. He always prefers a highly realistic approach in his paintings for whatever he sees in his surroundings. He started to represent paintings in a form whose expression manifests a step ahead of photography. He has always tried to reach to a horizon where photography cannot reach and make a statement what is called hyperrealism.
