A small and very impactful mid-century figurative painting that captures a serene moment by the sea, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1976.
The composition features two figures set against a vast, tranquil backdrop of sky and ocean. The central figure, dressed in a flowing white garment, carries a patterned bag, exuding a sense of calm and contemplation. A smaller figure, rendered in lighter hues, walks nearby, emphasising a sense of companionship or familial connection.
The painting’s style is distinctly modernist, characterised by minimalistic forms and a textured, almost naïve approach to rendering figures. The use of a muted, pastel colour palette – predominantly soft blues, whites, and sandy beiges – enhances the ethereal quality of the piece.
