Olio su tela. Scuola nord -Italia del XVII secolo.
La scena si rifà, con alcune variazioni ma molto vicina nelle dimensioni, ad una parte del grande affresco intitolato "Banchetto degli dei" nella Camera di Cupido ( o Camera di Amore e Psiche) di Palazzo Té a Mantova, grande raffigurazione di oltre nove metri realizzata da Giulio Romano con la sua bottega nel XVI secolo.
La scena proposta (che a Mantova è collocata sulla destra del grande banchetto), vede Amore e Psiche sdraiati su un triclinio, mentre una piccola figura alata li incorona d'alloro e due ninfe lavano la mano di Amore; sullo sfondo a destra un gruppo di satiri sta sacrificando una capra all'ara di una divinità, mentre al centro, in lontananza, una città brucia.
Il banchetto degli dei è il momento conclusivo del mito dei due innamorati, che, dopo molte prove e peripezie, ottengono il permesso di Venere per sposarsi.
L'opera, restaurata e ritelata, è presentata in cornice antica.
