About the Item
Italian religious painting of the Lombard School Madonna and Child with St. John ca. 1650 with a good balanced and harmonious composition in the center of which is the Child with his head surrounded by rays of light, wrapped in white drapery and painted with his facial features and gaze already adult, turned to look at St. John the child who embraces him adoringly. The Virgin with cropped hair wears a dress of soft purple and ultramarine drapery, holds the Child on her lap inside an undefined setting with a window open to a hilly landscape with architecture in the background. The oil painting on canvas is in good state of preservation; it has been cleaned, old restorations are present, compatible with the dation.
It is an antique painting of the Lombard school, from northern Italy, is unsigned and is by an unknown author, comes from a private collection and has a beautiful gilded frame in gold up to 1800. The frame was treated and disinfected because it bore old holes on the gilded surface.
