About the Item
Zoe Hawk (b. St. Louis, 1982) holds a BFA from Missouri State University and an MFA from the University of Iowa, and has attended esteemed residencies in 5 countries. Her work has been published in New American Paintings, Plastik Magazine, and JOIA Magazine, as well as in online features by Hi-Fructose and Booooooom. She exhibits worldwide and has numerous collaborations to her credit including with Paul & Joe Paris, ZARA, and True/False Film Fest. She lives and works in Columbia, Missouri. Hawk’s work deals with the complex experience of girlhood, exploring adolescent anxiety, feminine identity, and belonging. These themes are tackled within scenes of play and group interactions, in a style referencing classic storybook illustration. The narratives in these works are meant to be sweet and nostalgic, yet upon closer inspection hold a sense of mystery and the sinister.

Zoe Hawk
Zoe Hawk was born in St. Louis in 1982. She received a BFA in studio art from Missouri State University and MFA in painting from the University of Iowa. Zoe’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and included in publications such as New American Paintings, Plastik Magazine, ArtMaze Magazine in UK and JOIA Magazine in Chile. She has attended artist residencies in Ireland, Norway, Belgium and Qatar, as well as the Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, New York. Her notable exhibitions include “From Pangs to Pangolins," curated by Trenton Doyle Hancock at Shulamit Nazarian, Los Angeles, “SPRING/BREAK Art Show” 2019 at Los Angeles, Contemporary Art Qatar, Kraftwerk and solo exhibition “Dreaming As The Summers Die” at Glass Rice, San Francisco. Zoe Hawk’s special collaborative projects have included pieces for ZARA’s Women in Art clothing collection, released worldwide in 2019 and the Daydreamers Tarot deck, created for international documentary 2020 True/False Film Festival. Zoe is currently based in Columbia, Missouri.
