In a soberly furnished room, an elderly woman sits reading, or perhaps meditating, with her book resting on the small table under the window, while her small dog sleeps curled up onu na bench to the woman's right.
The scene is rich in detail, finely depicted; from the window, with the curtains raised to let in the light that illuminates the scene, figures can be glimpsed walking on a road leading to a fortified palace.
German painter August Friedrich Siegert established himself mainly for his portraits and genre scenes depicting moments of everyday life with great attention to detail and a touch of realism.
The dipito is presented in a coeval gilt frame from the second half of the 19th century.
