About the Item
"In the Pink" The lush, enfolding petals of the pink peony form a round ball that slowly unfurls into an expansive rose-like flowering. These beautiful flowers are so treasured because they only bloom for a brief period in late spring or early summer. Considered the "King of Flowers", it's a traditional floral symbol in China, is popular in Japanese tatoos and it's the state flower of Indiana. Artist Carole Garland captures the essence of the peony , recreating its flowering stages, from the tight ball to the slow opening up represented by the variety of blooms. Painting in the tradition of artists Claude Monet and Pierre-August Renoir, who painted lovely peonies in an Impressionistic style, she seeks to discover the spirit of the peony, while foregoing extreme realistic detail.
This 20"x16" work is an oil painting on wood panel. The neutral pine sides may serve as a frame. The painting is wired for easy hanging. Carole Garland has shown in numerous Southern California venues, most recent at TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station; realART Gallery, Agoura Hills; Rose Cafe, Venice, CA; the Santa Paula Art Museum; Topanga Gallery, Topanga CA; West Los Angeles Gallery; Channel Islands Studio Gallery and the Gallery of Hermosa Beach.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.
