Sister, do you remember sea#2

2024

About the Item

This painting will come to you stretched on a wooden stretcher and completely ready to be placed in the interior. ABOUT THE ARTWORK "In my painting 'Sister, do you remember the sea #2' from the 'Madeleine' series, I explore the intricate relationship between memory and the recollections of the sea. This work delves into the realms of nostalgia and personal memories, intertwined with collective experiences. The figures beneath the umbrella symbolize the protection and support found in close relationships, guiding the viewer to engage with the emotional landscapes of the past. This painting invites you to experience the depth and complexity of human memory, as it navigates the realms of both the real and the imagined." MEDELEINE Series The series of works “Madeleine” are the artist’s reflections on the nature of time and memory, the ability of art to recreate the past and give it meaning. The series is a deeply autobiographical study, where the artist asks questions about the nature of false memories, the ability of memory to correctly store stories, the ability of things and people to influence the perception of memory. As in Proust’s novel “In Search of Lost Time,” where the taste of Madeleine becomes the key to the invisible rooms of the past, each painting by the artist is a gateway to personal memories that mix with fictitious images, evoking a feeling of either déjà vu or reality, a subtle but always vivid anticipation . In the Madeleine series, the artist reveals an abundance of emotions and experiences, and, like Proust, uses art as a means to recreate the past, giving it new meaning and new value. Each work is a dialogue between the present and the past, between the external world and the internal space of memory.

"I consider myself a ‘Fusionist’, because I merge styles that inspire me, while playing with the fusion of East and West. I combine orientalism and primitivism with western cubist principles and the expressionists’ use of colour, to create bright and vibrant figurative images." - Amanda Watt Amanda Watt was born in Northern Ireland in 1960, and graduated from the Belfast College of Art and Design in 1982. Just three years out of University, while living in London, Amanda was discovered by top film director Barry Levinson, who invited her to Malibu to paint from his beach house for six months. From this moment, her art took off, and she spent the next twenty years building a successful career in California, making her way into collections of many key LA directors, producers, galleries, and film stars. With annual solo shows in LA, San Francisco and New York, Amanda's bright, vibrant landscapes, interior scenes, and her semi-abstract figurative paintings have became a staple of Californian society. Watt's key collectors include casino mogul Steve Wynn...
