A countryside depiction of a home near farmland. "It's a house that asks to be of some character who lives in a remote place on earth," states artist Eric Alfaro. He painted this piece with even strokes in colors that display a tranquil and quiet country landscape. The bold red pop of color is the focal point of the piece as it stands out in the center of the painting.
About the Artist
Cuban artist Eric Alfaro paints vibrant landscapes and stirring portraits with a contemporary impressionist style. Eric was born in Moscow while his parents were on a diplomatic mission and the family lived in Russia until he was 10 years old. After returning to Cuba, Eric showed an affinity for art. He went on to study painting and drawing at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro," the country's oldest and most prestigious art school. Despite his education, he says the path to developing his work has been long and complicated. "I began my studies in Cuba, a country full of obstacles and shortcomings," explains Eric. "Almost everything is lacking and it is very difficult for an artist to develop in that environment. I had to be very creative and adapt to the situation of the moment, taking advantage of whatever material I had on hand to make my art." Looking for outside opportunities, Eric focused on presenting his art on several social media networks. His efforts paid off when an American company took notice of his paintings and helped him move to Miami on a talent visa in 2020. Today, he spends nearly all of his time painting or looking at references and thinking about his next project. His art has been exhibited around the world, including at the Havana Biennial, the North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Paratissima Art Fair, in Torino, Italy.

Artist Onelio Marrero shares about his recent visit to Boston. While there, he and his wife took in the many cultural and historic sights. One of the places they spent some time was at the Historic Boston Library where Onelio examined the Sargent murals. The series of murals known as "Triumph of Religion", depict Judeo-Christian themes. "I painted myself as the figure in the room with the blank panel that Sargent never completed. It was to be a scene depicting 'The Sermon on...

Artist Onelio Marrero depicts a mother and her child dropping coins into a fountain for good luck. The quiet moment is painted in brilliant morning light with dappled shadows in the foreground. Behind them lies a verdant backdrop of foliage around a stone church and a view of the distant city beyond. Onelio's rich textures and detailed brushwork greatly enhances the piece. "The separating line between the church and the fountain reminds us of the demarcation between faith and luck," says Onelio.
About the Artist
Onelio Marrero paints city scenes of everyday life. In an impressionistic style he captures the romanticism of New York City, the picturesque fountains in Central Park and the wet city streets after a rainy afternoon. His use of warm tones creates a sense of nostalgia and the feeling that you have visited or seen this particular scene before. Onelio will often paint from direct observation, or he will work from a combination of photographs and combine numerous sources into one piece. In this way his work combines reality with fantasy, creating a new story with each painting. His work captures an appreciation for beauty in all of its greatest forms; nature, art, and people.

Artist Doug Cosbie paints a summer pastoral scene with barns and farmhouses in the distance. "There are many old family farms west of Washington DC in the county of Fauquier," says Doug. He includes the Stars and Stripes barn found near Delaplane, VA. Vivid hues of blue and green color the breezy natural landscape.
About the Artist
Artist Doug Cosbie presents the vibrancy found in nature with his impressionist, rural architecture centered artwork. Longing to create something that connects with people, Cosbie spent countless years perfecting how he portrays the world on canvas. Within his journey, he studied as an apprentice in the studios of Sam Black and Jack Shadbolt. As a plein air artist, Doug's studio is a portable pochade box. He begins by finding a location that speaks to him, makes a sketch, and continues to add depth and dimension with oil on canvas. "Creativity when making art is not about interpreting exactly as you see it. New ideas are formed by interesting contrasts, and interesting paintings happen when things are out of place." In the rare cases when he is not painting, you can find him reading, traveling, sailing, and spending quality time with his family. Cosbie's creations have been showcased at galleries in Canada. He is an alumnus of Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia.
