About the Item
John B. Aragon's Watercolor Painting on Paper of the exterior of a New Mexico Mission Church measures 10-1/2 x 14-1/2 inches. The matting and framing bring the total dimensions to 17-5/8 x 21-5/8 x 3/4 inches. The watercolor rendering of a mission church is situated in the center of the work. The facade looms large because of the shallow foreground. The bright white of the facade seems to indicate the heat of the afternoon sun. The two towers of the church are mimicked by two green shrubs flanking the entrance to the church. The trees and shrubs are the only life forms present in this arid scene.
John Baptist Aragon was born on July 12, 1930 in Los Angeles, California and passed away on June 21, 2017 - just shy of his 87th birthday. After graduation from Loyola University in 1954 John entered the US Air Force and graduated from the pilot training program. John was an accomplished fighter pilot and a T-33 instructor, and flew the F-86 and F-100 aircrafts. During his service John earned the following commendations: Bronze Star, Bronze Service Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and many others. John achieved rank of Lt. Colonel and retired from the USAF in 1974.
After retiring from the USAF John became a watercolor artist and eventually opened a gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. John was active in many art organizations, including the Santa Fe Society of Artists.

'Landscape Near Cundiyo, NM', by Webb Young, Watercolor Painting on Paper
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 20.25" x 27.25" watercolor painting captures a winter landscape near Cundiyo, New Mexico, rendered in a naturalistic style. The foreground is populated with dark green shrubs, their colors providing a stark contrast against the white snow. These elements add a sense of depth and dimension to the scene, drawing the viewer’s eye into the painting. Starting in the foreground and continuing into the distance, is a partially visible dirt trail, blanketed with snow. The mid-ground features rolling hills blanketed in snow and dark foliage. In the background, distant mountains rise against the sky, their peaks slightly obscured by mist or clouds. This not only adds a sense of scale to the scene but also creates an atmospheric effect. The sky, painted in light blue hues, suggests a calm, clear day. The overall tranquil color palette balances the more detailed and textured elements of the composition. The painting is encased in a light brown, wooden frame, with a thin white inner boarder, complimenting the natural theme of the artwork.
Webb Young (1913-2005) was a renowned artist known for his depictions of New Mexico landscapes, architecture, and people. Young was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 2, 1913, and his interest in painting began at age 11 with art classes at the Chicago Art Institute. From 1925 through 1928, he studied painting in New Mexico under the famous Southwestern painter, Gerald Cassidy...

'Outdoor Street Scene', by Sonya Terpening, Watercolor on Paper
By Sonya Terpening
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
Sonya Terpening's framed watercolor on paper painting titled 'Outdoor Street Scene' captures a calm scene outside of a cafe. The dining table depicted in the work becomes the focal point when observing this piece, as it is placed in the foreground and captures the eye with a vivid blue table cloth; on the table are four glasses placed upside-down and what appears to be a sugar and salt shaker. Terpening's realistic style is exemplified in her depiction of the table; the blue cloth's folds and wrinkles, and the heavy use of shadows and lighting on the table cloth, chairs, and glasses all contribute to the realistic qualities of the piece. The table is positioned on a red brick sidewalk/street directly outside of the cafe, which is also brick but painted white. The cafe door...
