About the Item
An elevated view of a cityscape of Manchester, UK, painted over many years and it features in the centre the Urbis building now serving as a Museum of Football. I thought it would interesting to juxtapose this modern, urban landscape containing many new streamlined, steel and glass buildings with the iconic, L.S. Lowry, matchstick figures that appeared in his naive Manchester landscapes of the 1920's and 30's where these figures were set in a background of heavy industry, terraced houses, factory chimneys and mills thereby drawing attention to the changing appearance of the city in the context of stereotypes that exist even today. The artwork is painted is on 40cmx50cm, primed hardboard using acrylic paints, some liquid acrylic inks, and was developed in several layers over time, a process which lasted several years.
