After her painting style had remained very realistic, almost photographic, for many years, Amy Devlin has recently developed a more expressive, looser style. She brings the bodies in the water to the foreground and abstracts the light blue water. Nevertheless, the image is still clearly recognizable, although the color palette differs completely from previous works. The artist uses the supple compliance of oil paint, which, in combination with her unconventional color choice: bright neon colors, gives a special effect. She believes that everything from nature is never one color. These consist of all kinds of textures, shadows and light. Her goal is to achieve this layered effect with complex and bold color compositions.
The title of this artwork derives from Greek Mythology. Poseidon and Amphitrite were the god and goddess of the Sea. Both deities have been widely recognized and represented in both art and literature throughout the years.
Devlin grew up in New Zealand and has now lived in the United Kingdom for over twenty years. She lives and works in the Kent countryside since 2015. In her studio in her beautiful garden, she surrenders to the creative process.

I aim to capture the solitude and tranquillity of water or skies by combining realism with impressionistic brushstrokes. For underwater commissions I am able to organise rental of an underwater camera to take on holiday with you to capture amazing underwater images.
