About the Item
Here is internationally acclaimed visual artist Elaine Badgley Arnoux's 'Portrait of Maya Angelou', who is an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. Angelou is best known for her series of seven autobiographies, which focus on her childhood and early adult experiences. The first, being 'I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings' (1969).
The painting is created in mixed media: oil on canvas, with collage, resin and rope. A map of the USA creates the foundation for Ms. Angelou's face, and there are symbols from an early African language strategically placed within the states where Ms. Angelou lived as a child before moving in with her grandmother, which was the best place for her to be.
‘Portrait of Maya Angelou’ is 70 inches high, including the roots that cascade off the painting, hanging free. The panel itself is 54 x 48 inches. A wonderful painting by Elane Badgley Arnoux, who has exhibited extensively, and is included in important public and private art collections worldwide.
