Original illustration was done by Renna for the novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne, published in 1963. What makes this work special is how brilliantly the subjects are painted. Gianni Renna was an illustrator in mid-century Italy. He possessed artistic skills backed up by a deep academic knowledge of painting, masterful drawing, imaginative graphic design and creative use of color that is virtually absent in the fine art world today. There are very few contemporary artists who could paint a narrative group portrait this good. Period! unsigned. unframed.
