Jules-Ami Courvoisier was a prominent Swiss painter, illustrator, and poster artist, born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1884. He studied under Charles L’Eplattenier and later trained in Munich and Paris with renowned artists such as Jacques-Émile Blanche and Eugène Grasset.
In 1912, he settled in Geneva, where he became widely known for his powerful and expressive posters. His works, often created for cultural, social, and political events, include notable pieces such as Mobilisation 1914, Salon de l’automobile de Genève (1926), and various Swiss Red Cross campaigns.
Courvoisier also illustrated books, designed stained glass for churches in Bevaix and Auvernier, and painted landscapes and portraits. He passed away in Geneva in 1936, leaving a significant legacy in Swiss graphic art.
