About the Item
This artwork " Woman with her Birkin bag" presents a striking and abstract depiction of a woman, standing enigmatically against a vibrant, multicolored background. This painting makes part of the series dedicated to "Women".
The composition is dominated by bold brushstrokes and intense colors, which create a vivid sense of motion and energy. The background melds blues, greens, and yellows in an expressive wash, providing a dynamic and contrasting backdrop to the figure.
The central figure, the woman rendered with minimalistic detail, exudes both mystery and presence. The facial features are intentionally obscured, encouraging viewers to focus on the figure’s form and the emotional resonance conveyed through color and posture.
The woman is adorned in a loosely defined garment of contrasting colors—earthy reds and rich greens—adding layers of complexity and intrigue. Beside the figure rests a vivid red handbag, Birkin, placed on a small table. This element introduces a narrative aspect, inviting speculation about identity and intention. The bag serves as a bold focal point, its color harmonizing yet standing distinctly against the broader palette of the piece.
This artwork's unique strength lies in its abstract representation and use of color to evoke emotion and curiosity. It challenges the viewer to look beyond the superficial and delve into the realm of interpretation and imagination, making it a compelling piece for contemplation.
This painting is done with watercolor and acrylic paints on a heavyweight professional paper.
It is sold unframed: you are welcome to frame it according to your taste and interior.

Natalya is a contemporary artist from Lyon, France. She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes and low mountains. She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country. She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis when she was struggling with radical life changes. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now. Several years ago painting became more than a hobby. It became a way of expressing her emotions and visions, a successive reaction to events of either personal or general concern. Her artist statement: “ I paint as it’s a necessity for my soul to express itself. Being creative for me is overcoming the restrictions. My art is a piece of my soul. I hope my art inspires reflection, provides a release and forms connection at other people’s souls”. She has developed her own vision of art through practicing a lot. She makes use of varying degrees of figuration, abstraction and impressionism by adding a contemporary twist. Abstract art for her is an interesting challenge for understanding inner feelings, a self-expression based on an intuitive approach. In figurative art her main subject remains women. Her artworks representing women contain the raw emotions of women. She also communicates the importance and the power of strong female relationships: “Women are enriched when they bond with each other”. She works in series: among them are "Heart-mind connection" of abstract artworks, "Women", "Bond", "Florals", "Springtime"... She uses various mediums ( acrylic, oil, watercolor, oil pastels) to create her unique artworks either on canvas or on paper. But she mainly uses acrylic as she works very quickly and expressively by finishing her artwork in one sitting. If Natalya had to pick one quote about her art, she would say : " Art is the reflection of the soul". Natalya goes with her gut and intuition to choose the colors, the lines, the shapes and the texture. She hopes her artworks will give a home a unique personality by filling it with life and color. Her sources of inspirations are Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, George-Daniel de Monfreid, Paul Gauguin. She also admires the artworks of Joan Mitchell and Banksy.

UNTITLED (WOMAN LOOKING IN PURSE).
By Isabel Bishop
Located in Portland, ME
Bishop, Isabel. UNTITLED (WOMAN LOOKING IN PURSE). Ink on cardstock, not dated. Unsigned. 5 x 5 inches. A fast, likely unposed sketch of a passerby. In excellent condition.
Isabel Bishop, 1902-1988.
Isabel Bishop was born and raised in the Midwest. She came to New York in 1918 where she studied at the New York School of Applied Design for Women and the Art Students League, where her teachers included Kenneth Hayes Miller and Guy Pene du Bois. In 1934 she rented a studio in Union Square where she worked for the remainder of her career, often taking as her subjects the men and women who worked in the shops and offices on the square, or who walked or sat in Union Square Park.
She was a great draughtsman, and much of her graphic work is devoted to studies of the human figure in motion or at rest within the context of their activities in Union Square or similar settings. Bishop made etchings throughout her career, producing more than 80 prints between 1925 and 1982.
Prior to 1978 Bishop had editoned only a few of her prints; most of them were printed on an “as needed” basis only, by her, on her own press as gifts, or for sale. From 1978 on, Bishop collaborated with Sylvan Cole of Associated American Artists and the master printer Stephen Sholinsky...
