Head wrap is about precolonial Africans during the Transatlantic Slave Trade, one of the few cultural pieces Africans were able to drag to the Americas were head wraps but later they were used as a tool of oppression and servitude. master forced African women and men to wear them as a symbol of their enslavement. The wonderful cultural symbol was watered down to nothing more than a badge of shame. Even though head wraps were an object of oppression from one vantage point, they also served as a vehicle of empowerment and mementos of freedom for the slave community.
