About the Item

German term that describes a period spent exploring, or wandering, often in one's youth, as a way of learning, growing, and discovering oneself. Maybe our youth isn't supposed to be the time where we figure everything out, the time where we understand who we're supposed to be. Maybe all that we need to do is just move through these years- experience everything and anything by making those mistakes, falling in and out of love, giving too much of ourselves, saying the right and wrong things, taking multiple paths, and going on several different journeys. Falling ten times, just to get up again on the eleventh. Understanding what fuels us and what makes us feel empty. Being acquainted with what brings us joy and what robs us of our happiness. Because that is how we learn, adapt, grow, and transform, and maybe not knowing where we're going will eventually lead us to our virtues. While we may not have much insight into where we're headed, what we want to devote our lives to, or who we're supposed to be, these years are for us to experience, to be here, to feel it all, and ride the rollercoaster of life. One day, we'll end up exactly where we're destined to be; however, we get there, whenever we get there. And that is when we can look back on these years and realize why things happened the way they did. About Artist Olumide Ajayi, born in the vibrant and culturally rich Osun State, Nigeria, is a multifaceted individual whose diverse interests and talents span writing, entrepreneurship, business management, and technology. Growing up in a region known for its deep-rooted traditions and artistic heritage, Olumide developed a profound appreciation for the arts, music, and entertainment from an early age. Artist Statement In the depths of our being, we often encounter feelings that are too profound to articulate—emotions that swirl like shadows, whispering secrets that linger just beyond the edges of understanding. My work seeks to embrace these complex feelings, giving them a canvas to breathe, shift, and resonate. My paintings generally explore the psycho-emotional aspect of everyday life. As the mind exists without form, the body acts as a window into the mind. I tried to focus on the not-so-obvious feelings. I want to tell truths that you can see only if you care to look inward and pay attention to the details. The cyclical motifs and fading gradients in my works convey the endless flow of time, where individual lives are fleeting moments in a greater continuum. Life doesn’t wait for you to be alright; it just keeps going like an endless circle. Each piece I create reflects my journey through the labyrinth of human experience. I explore the beauty and turmoil of emotions that can feel isolating yet are universally shared. With paint, textures, and colours, I invite viewers to confront their depths and recognize that the feelings they carry are valid and significant. I hope that when you stand before my work, you find a connection that transcends words—a reminder that you are not alone in your struggles and triumphs. These pieces are a testament to resilience, a visual embrace that assures us all that we will be fine in the end. Together, let us navigate the intricacies of our emotions and celebrate the profound strength that comes from vulnerability.

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Located in Brooklyn, NY
John-Herbert was born in Miami and moved to New York city when he was 3 years old. As the son of a Filipno mother and bi-racial father, his multi-cultural roots at first felt like a challenge but with time, and especially through his creative explorations, he would create his own unique world. This would immerse into his work; containing multiple points of views. Inspirations from Basquiat to Van Gogh, Monet to Dali and Matisse; John-Herbert developed a Neo-Expressionist approach infused with surrealism, figurative, and abstract renderings. From the tender age of eight, Wright gravitated to painting as an escape expressing a rich inner world. His work heavily relies upon dark figurations amongst an urban landscape leaving the viewer space to navigate the world he creates. An analogy of the human condition; centering the female nude/mother and child as the protagonist, he tells the story of the broken seeking respite, the downcast, the other. Wright seeks to illuminate the universe of darkness within all of us, within himself, and that darkness contrasted with fragility has always been at the epicenter of his work. Wright has managed to create a niche for himself as a painter and street-wear designer, contributing to the role the graphic t-shirt played in disseminating New York street culture across the globe. Transferring the techniques of garment making onto his canvases, Wright’s paintings feature backdrops of multiple layers of silk-screened images, drawings and text. He has also expanded his avenues of expression, creating installations and even multi-sensory exhibitions, building even more detailed spaces to travel with him through. Although his success has been celebrated, in many ways till recently, Wright has also kept his own story on fade. This changed last year with his highly lauded solo show “Rewind & Reflect” (at the Blue Gallery...
