About the Item
This fine Biedermeier period portrait depicts an arresting sitter, adorned with a substantial choker of pearls. No detail of the woman's fashionable dress goes unnoticed by the artist who, with expert use of light and a delicate hand, conveys the translucent lace against the heavy chiffon of the blue dress with incredible accuracy.
Smaller details such as the watch ring and colourful handkerchief stand out in the overall composition with an almost opulent quality. The artist shows the woman seated on a Biedermeier style chair, emphasising the heavy curvature of the arms and back of the furniture.
Unsigned. Presented in a part gilt frame with a red painted cove. On canvas.
