A delightfully tender 18th-century family portrait depicting mother and daughter - Anna and Adelaide - with their cherished spaniel. The artist beautifully conveys the intimate bond between the pair, as they pose with soft smiles. Anna is elegantly dressed in her finest gown adorned with bows and lace. Her hair is delicately decorated with small flowers that echo her patterned dress. Young Adelaide wears a pink silk dress and a lace bonnet also embellished with flowers. Both figures gently hold their beloved dog, as a rich maroon curtain in the background adds another layer of opulence to the composition. Signed and dated verso. Inscribed verso. Handsomely presented in a substantial frame with a small plaque to the lower rail. On canvas on stretchers.
