Born and educated in Cleveland, Gary Bukovnik has lived in San Francisco for more than a third of a century. Primarily using the media of watercolor, monotype, and lithograph, Bukovnik fuses sensual vitality with fluid yet powerful colorations, creating floral and culinary images of great depth, intensity, and size. In 2003 and 2005, invited Bukovnik was Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2003 and 2005 and was an artist-in-residence at the Michigan Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo in 2010, as well as making a tour of exhibitions and watercolor demonstrations across Japan in 2010. Solo exhibitions include Caldwell Snyder Gallery in San Francisco and in St. Helena, CA, Campton Gallery in New York City; the Concept Gallery in Pittsburgh, the A.C.T. Gallery in San Francisco, and the Bonfoey Gallery in Cleveland. Nadezda's beautiful new oil on panel painting "Ingredients" (2024) is a surrealist portrait of a young woman, dressed in Russian-inspired clothing and resting curiously during the night beside a plume of mushrooms, among a surreal field of spirits. Behind her, flying away is the spirit of a woman and a cat, and in front float two clay faces among the peonies. Nadezda is a painter, sculptor, photographer, and concept artist. Her artwork is focused on narratives carefully gathered from the hidden chambers of her imagination as well as live theater-inspired work with actors, dancers, and models. Like a quilt stitched of poetic realities, Nadezda’s mysterious world defies the mundane. With a non-linear creative process flowing between different media, the artist explores various vantage points in her creations. This dynamic approach inspires her mind’s eye to focus on the worlds within and evoke an uninterrupted, creative transmission which is then channeled through her paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, writing and film. Oliver Clare British, (1853-1927) Still Life of Apples, Grapes & Other Fruit Oil on canvas, signed Image size: 17.5 inches x 13.5 inches Size including frame: 23.5 inches x 19.5 inches A lovely still life painting of fruit by Oliver Clare. Apples, black grapes and plums can be seen together with a strawberry and gooseberries. The fruit is shown lying amongst foliage and trailing ivy on a woodland bank. Oliver Clare was born in Birmingham in 1853, the son of the flower artist George Clare (1839-1890) and his wife Elizabeth Bowen. His brother Vincent Clare (1856-1917) also became an artist and both would have received tuition from their father who influenced their style and subject matter. At the age of 18 he enlisted as a soldier in the Kings Own regiment, but gave this up to become a full time artist.
