About the Item

Fruit Market Large Still Life Painting Artist signed lower right. Carol Korpi McKinley is an internationally acclaimed American artist best known for her large-scale depictions of fruits, vegetables and animals, as well as her lush, color-drenched landscapes. Her artwork is exhibited in numerous corporate and private collections around the world. Born in northern Michigan, Carol spent her childhood surrounded by creativity. Her parents, being true entrepreneurs, were always seeking out new endeavors and adventures. They instilled in her early on that spirit of adventure and resourcefulness. She received her first set of paints at the age of four, became fascinated with the colors, and hasn’t stopped painting since. While exploring different career options, Carol met S. Terry and Cynthia Cowgill and was intrigued by the artistic freedom they possessed. Soon after that, she realized her calling was to pursue her art full time. She began studying sculpture while continuing to paint, and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Florida Atlantic University in 1991. The continuity in Carol’s work revolves around her attraction to single objects. “I like to idolize one thing, and focus in on it. There’s something about the simplicity of that one object that I’m drawn to.” Most of her paintings are part of a series of large works, such as the Fresco Fruit and Vegetable Collection, the Bright Animal Collection, the Farm Animal Series, and the Junk Food Collection. She brings life, freshness and harmony to each object she portrays. Not to limit herself, Carol also creates magnificent landscapes, often combining different subjects she encounters on her many travels. Her visually appealing large-scale works continue to sell out, earning her fans around the globe.

Farm to Table
By Maryann Lucas
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
An oil painting of farm-fresh goods laid on a table with a plaid picnic-print tablecloth. Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights. Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness. For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint. Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein...

Colorado Woman Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting Modernist Still Life, Fruit
By Ruth Todd

Ruth Todd (1909-2006, American Woman Artist) one of Colorado’s most prominent avant-garde artists and played a significant role in Colorado’s art history. Known for painting and collage. Still life with lemon and banana on kitchen table. Ruth Thomas Todd was born in 1909 in Sanford, North Carolina. She arrived in New York City in the 1930s where she began her career as a fashion model supporting herself as she attended classes at the Art Students League. For reasons of health she moved to Colorado Springs to treat her condition. During her recuperation she started to draw and studied under famous American abstract painter Robert Motherwell, who was teaching at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at the time. By the 1950s, her career as an abstract expressionist painter was blooming. She was one of Colorado’s most visible and avant-garde artists. Ruth married Littleton Todd, a poet and a woodworker. In 1953, Todd traveled to Europe (Paris, France) to study art and to paint. Littleton Todd opened a design studio in Denver where he manufactured and sold modern furniture. She would incorporate sawdust and other found materials from the workshop imbued with oil paint into her abstract work to create unique topographies and patterns. She showed at numerous Gilpin County Art Exhibitions, the Denver Art Museum, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Colorado Women’s College, the University of Colorado, Boulder, the Colorado State Fair, and the Jewish Community Center. Among the Colorado Modernists that she exhibited with were Vance Kirkland, Frank Vavra, Martha Epp, Ardis Sturdy...
