About the Item
The delicate and vivid paper thin petals of the tropical bougainvillea are the subject of this colorful painting. The magenta rose and cadmium red flowers are ephemeral when cut from the vine and placed in a vase. It will be only a day before they wilt. The artist painting from life must work quickly to capture their essence.
Fine artist Carole Garland embraces the challenge of painting the evanescent overlapping petals of the bougainvillea, dotted with tiny flowers. She brings her utmost care in discovering the shadows underneath and the subtle light on the overhanging petals. And yet then there is another petal peeking out from above and below.
This 16"x20" Oil Painting on a Wood Panel is wired for simplicity of hanging. The two-inch wide sides are of natural wood and can serve as a frame.
Carole Garland was a student of art at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois; the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of the Americas in Mexico City. She has most recently been mentored by fine artist David Gallup, former vice-president of the California Art Club. She has shown in numerous California venues, most recently TAG Gallery, Bergamot Station; realART Gallery, Agoura Hills; the Gallery at West Los Angeles College; Rose Cafe, Venice, CA; the Santa Paula Art Museum; the Topanga Canyon Gallery, and the Channel Islands Gallery. She has served on the board of Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains & Seashore for over 20 years; several years onthe board at TAG Gallery and on the Associate Artists Committee of the California Art Club.

Carole Garland
Carole Garland, born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill., She studied figure drawing and oil painting at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of the Americas, Mexico City. After moving to Los Angeles she studied privately with Keith Finch, Venice. Concurrent with her art pursuits, Garland worked as a magazine editor, publicist, director's assistant, book editor, and sales executive. After a brief hiatus from painting, she looked to the outdoors for inspiration and began plein air watercolor studies with Don Blaisdell, UCLA.
