About the Item
"Purple Falling Flowers' is abstract painting of flowers and vines over a pale teal and tan background. Bright green stems tangle together as if the flowers are being dropped over the edge of a cliff, or into surf on a beach. Hints of yellow in the vines help make the purple of the flowers pop. Impasto paint adds dimension to the piece.

Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own.
The Falling Flower series from Yektai show the influence of the mid century modern "Action" painters that were colleagues of Manucher Yektai (Darius Yektai's father). We are especially reminded of DeKooning's later work, which was happening out here on the East End of Long Island during Darius Yektai's formative years.
Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

Darius Yektai
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. Darius grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American mother and his father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. Delphiniums in Glass Vase Double Still Life is part of a series debuted in 2023, where Yektai has inculcated nature—employing the late 20th century effect of including ‘found objects” into his paintings. Here we see actual delphinium stems bursting out of the vase in the foreground. Just to remind us of who is king of the canvas, he rakes the whole composition with wide dashes of paint to emphasize each section’s role. We see black dabs to push back the deep green background, wide white marks to bring the table forward and bright red swashes of oil paint on the right to balance out the composition, creating a flag effect out of the whole painting.
