About the Item

Flour, Sugar, Cornmeal, Tea (Contemporary Still Life Painting of Kitchen Jars) Contemporary monotype, oil and collage still-life painting on panel of a collection of storage tins set on a yellow and white striped background. David Konigsberg Flour, Sugar, Cornmeal, Tea, 2023 15" x 17" oil on panel This contemporary still-life painting was made by Hudson, NY-based artist, David Konigsberg, in 2023. The still-life features a collection of storage tins nestled together on a kitchen counter. In the latest paintings by Hudson based artist David Konigsberg, we observe in-between moments. There is suggestion of past and imminent possibility within each still capture. Konigsberg describes that his subjects are “animate – yet caught between actions – the raise of a cup, the flip of a page, in the crouch before the pounce.” Some of the paintings reveal a mixing of mediums; Konigsberg uses printmaking techniques to introduce qualities of spontaneity and surprise to his process. The addition of collaged monoprints emerges a new, defined silhouette of shapes in high contrast. While these graphic representations are contained, the paintings composed in oil spill beyond the confines of the canvas edge. A group of orange poppies are bold, expressive, and take up every inch of space. Bright, yellow lemons rest in a bowl that quietly reaches just beyond the frame; the vessel and its shadow cannot be restrained. The artist enjoys juxtaposing the minuteness and immensity in these works. About the artist and work: David Konigsberg shares a renewed reverence for his surroundings in the Hudson Valley, where he has made his home for the past four years. Known for a conceptual realism that has, in the past, used landscape as a backdrop—and everything from angels to fantastical flying machines as characters and metaphors—with this series the artist moves the backdrop forward, in paintings that are more frankly personal and quietly revealing. An avid hiker, Konigsberg draws from long walks in farm country and frequent climbs among the peaks of the nearby Catskills and Taconics. Still, while his references are specific to the region, these paintings transcend location to enter a realm that is tranquil, deeply spiritual and universal. Beyond subject matter, the magic of the work can be found in Konigsberg’s handling of paint, in both the gestural brushwork that propels his characters and the use of layers to create illusions—for example, of haze or morning mist in an environment filled with atmospheric drama. David Konigsberg is a conceptual realist who works across media and painting genres to portray transitional spaces, metaphoric moments and alternative histories. A long-time member of the Gowanus and Red Hook artist communities in Brooklyn, he is now based in Hudson and employs the area's landscapes as the setting and sometimes subject of his work. The artist’s work has been exhibited throughout out the United States and has been featured in The New York Times, Chronogram and Brooklyn Journal and numerous art and culture blogs. David Konigsberg lives and works in Hudson, New York.

Composition with a jar, oil painting by Pierre Coquet
Located in Montfort l’Amaury, FR
Composition with a jar, oil painting by Pierre Coquet Reference number F488 Framed with a natural oak floated frame 48 x 70 x 2 cm (53 x 75 x 3,5 cm frame included) This work is painted with oil on a paper that is laid on a canvas and placed in a made to measure wood strectcher. Stamp of the signature in the bottom right and stamp of workshop on the back. In this composition, the brushstrokes are thicker and the touches of white revive the overall effect, which has been treated in rough, earthy tones. An orange background can be seen underneath, lighting up the materials in places. The play of light completes the rendering of the modeling. In this painting, there's all the humility of a painter who wants to give life to these objects while remaining simple. Still lives are one of Pierre favourite subjects. Always in a very quiet atmosphere, with simple objects or alive nature. Provenance : Workshop of the artist (stamped and numbered on the back) Pierre Coquet (1926-2021) is a French painter who was born in Limas near Lyon, France. He entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon in 1942 and followed the teaching of Antoine Chartres, Henri Vielly and René Chancrin...
